Anyone have any info about work conditions at FL Hospital Heartland in Sebring and Lake Placid? I get mixed reviews but would like to her from anyone that has or currently works there. Thanks.

I've noticed that FL Hosp in Sebring and Lake Placid has several openings for RN's that interest me. However I have heard some negative things about these hospitals in the area. I was wondering if anyone in this community is familiar with Heartland division, most especially if you work or have worked there. I would love to hear other nurse's thoughts. Thanks.

There is no such thing as "just a nurse." Go with your heart and not with other's opinions of what you should choose. I believe this life is a calling more than a mere career choice. Good luck with your decision.

@DeeAngel....where do you work that you have a charge nurse that takes care of PRN's and your techs get 12 pts @ night...I want to go there!!! I am having such a rough time where I am; hosp owned by HMA, horrible staffing, low supplies and our poor techs will usually have over 15 pts a piece, sometimes one tech for 30+ pts. I am a fairly new nurse and had no preceptorship, been there for 3 mos and have had 6-7 pts on my own since about 4 weeks in.

I am so sad reading these posts. I am a new nurse that just started working for an HMA facility and, in the short time I have been there, I have seen all of the negatives and more. I figured this was just an old hospital and they are hopefully starting to upgrade...but sadly, no. The rooms are old, tiny, and dark...still semi-private which I know most hospitals have converted to all private due to infection control. It just feels that they are still in the dark ages. The Caret system they use for medication administration must be the cheapest system ever invented. I would not be surprised if the company that developed the system was about to throw it out and HMA ran and bought it up cheap. Those things make passing out meds a chore...it takes 3 times as long with those stupid Dots! I am looking to get out ASAP...just need a little experience. Wish I would have done my homework but I was just so desperate to find a job! Good luck!

I live in the area and am looking to relocate since there are no jobs out here for new grads. The problem is Baptist has the Scholars program, and if you are not a scholar, you cannot get a job at Baptist right now as a new grad. I used to work for Baptist and was told that I would not have a job as an RN because I was not a Scholar. One of my classmates, also a non-scholar, knows many people that work for the Baptist Health System and she has been in contact with Administration, even recruiters who have told her she has 0% chance of working for Baptist Health right now as a new nurse. They have so many scholars, they don't have anywhere to place them. They have to make positions in order to hire scholars to whom they have promised a job after graduation. It's a situation that I think even they didn't know they would end up with...too many scholars with nowhere to put them. As far as other places down here, Jackson is the only other game in town, and they are laying-off right now due to financial difficulty. Most other jobs like home health and hospice want at least one year of experience. Right now, I am willing to work anywhere and know that I need to relocate to do that. Good luck with your search.
