  1. Good for you! I have been an RN for 15 years and went and did travel nursing for a year and a half for the same reason. I can tell you every place I have worked when I gave notice of moving on has begged me to stay and offered me raises. Said that to say this, in my 15 years as a nurse (20 years working for federal govenment in clerical before nursing) I have run across many many more poor nurse managers than my 20 years prior to nursing. I don't get it? why are there so many terrible at the job of managing? ie... favoritism, poor judgement, never give anybody kudos just grip grip grip, and I can't tell you how many managers sing the same tune 'if you don't like here leave or (I love this one) you should be glad you have a good job.....it's terrible.
  2. I am precepting a new grad nurse after just finishing precepting another new grad so I can understand the stress. This particular newbie is very nervous/ anxious and asks 3 to 4 times more than the average newbie. Everybody has noticed she is anxious about everything and tends to holler at me for help before attempting to problem solve by herself first. So I am feeling stressed but trying to be very patient with her. A couple of days ago, she mentioned in a very tacklefull way that I seemed 'tired' today. This opened the door and we talked about things she and I both feel frustrated about and this helped us both. She is now attempting to problem solve and only ask after she has tried to figure out herself. Said all that to say this. I don't think offering candy is going to help stress levels. Why don't you find a tackleful way of saying you feel frustrated at times and wondering if she does too. Hope this helps.
  3. When I was in nursing school 15 yrs ago I remember when we were close to finishing (we had 3 male nurses in our class of 45) they were offered 3 positions to our 1. Also they were offered slightly more per hour than us females. I have worked with male nurses throughout my career and have not seen them treated any differently.
  4. I am currently on assingment in Vermont, my hubbie is bring my bike up here to me in a few weeks, I've been scoping out nice roads to ride on, the scenery here is awesome.
  5. Thanks for the reply. I have taken lots of trips on my bike and always try to park right in front of my motel door or under the awning at the entrance. Have discovered most motels accomodating as long as you're not blocking walkways. I have a cable to lock around the bike that weighs probably 10 lbs would need some heavy duty equipment to break thru would never break thru with an axe. Guess if nothing else can take my chain and bike covers. I also worry in an apt complex about courious kids etc or vandalism. I did have one bike cover stolen once too! This is a $12,000 itlian bike, of course I have full coverage on it. Thanks again for the reply. Nancy:) P.S. One advantage to taking the bike along, at least I have backup trasportation should the car break down!
  6. I am an ED RN looking into starting travel nursing in March. I ride a motorcycle as my outlet/stress reliever. Of course here at home my bike is in a garage. Do any of you that travel take a motorcycle with you? If so where do you keep it, at your temporary residence or do you rent a storage space. Any experience with this appreciated.
