Student Nurse "Help me!" Threads

I think I'm done answering student nurse help me threads here.

I've gotten rude answers, or they never even bother coming back to the thread to acknowledge the answers they received.

Some will ask life choice questions like "Where should I move?" or "Where should I apply?". Do they think someone is going to offer them a job here, is that why they start these threads? You have the whole internet to research towns, cities, regions, but instead you post a thread asking a bunch of strangers where you should move?

Some help me threads seem to be 'Help me do my homework' threads.

Thank you for reading.

Google...city...data. That will tell you everything you need to know about job outlooks and city demographics. Even with the internet people can't research, it's sad...

I'm going to play devils advocate here. According to the BLS, the area I want to live in has a reported (via BLS 2012), average wage for RN's is 65k.

According to people on this forum (in '08/ '09) the wage was $22/hr.

Nowhere near 65k (15k less give or take)

In that regard, the research was not accurate. Unless you're going to tell me that the wages have gone up 12k in a year.

Or could there be such high wage in experienced nurses that it skews the average upwards?

If so, the BLS site isn't gonna tell me that!

(so i come here!)

I was thinking the same thing. This has become a more "help me I can't find a job board" than a colleague board.

I think there is room for all discussions, but we're inundated with the "I am unemployed after 3 months past graduation" "I've been a nurse for 20 years, do I need a refresher course" "Who's hiring in your area"...I am all for networking, but most post are blatant, I don't want to work hard for it, so can you tell me.

What about people asking for OP's notes and posting their email, full name and phone number in threads. Or blatantly asking people to share their study materials that are very costly.

Hey! I liked reading your post. I am a nursing student (cue dramatic music haha) and unfortunately I do see that a lot on here. In my experience, I have only posted on here a bit and my threads are about asking current RNs about their experience in their specialty fields. I have gotten good feedback and I respond to what they post and I def thank them. Just saying that because I hope that we see more of that from students. There are some students on here that appreciate the time you all take to post on here...you are all awesome!

For those who don't respond or don't have the courtesy to even say thanks, I apologize. That kinda says a lot about our new generation of nurses. I noticed that during nursing school as well (in my last semester) and there is a kind of pushy, self-centered, "easy way out" kind of attitude among a huge chunk of students that surprised me. It's disappointing to see your classmates cheat and use google as primary sources of medical information. Some still don't even know how to search for, read, and analyze a scientific peer reviewed journal. How is a nurse supposed to stay up to date with best practice guidelines if they can't access the latest research? Ugh it makes me cringe. Okay...I am done with my rant. I love the majority of my fellow nursing students but those lazy ones that don't appreciate the field get under my skin.

Anyways...thanks nurses! You're appreciated!

The ones that get me are the ones asking "I want to work in health care. What path should I take?" "Is nursing for me?". " I got two job offers. Which one should I take?" " If I move to ______ how fast will I get a job?"

How on earth would we know?

Yeah, it seems to me someone who is clearly able to set up an account on an Internet message board would have enough know-how to be able to reseach such things online.

I often feel the same way, Emergent. There have been many times I've taken a great deal of time and thought into an answer, and the OP never even says so much as "Thank you." It's irritating. Or, worse yet, they immediately start arguing and telling you why you are wrong. Hey, if you know it all already, why did you ask?

So, I do very little advice ("advise") giving to newbies.
