Am I the only one that thinks whomever started hospital week purposefully made it the same week as nurses week to avoid having to recognize nurses? Or am I just a crazed conspiracy theorist?

I was just thinking that....my hospital can't show us enough respect to celebrate a week that is designated specifically to us, they make us share it with the whole dang hospital!

I am thankful my hospital does not force nurses to share their week with some other week. I think my hospital really does care about nurses, or at least it looks that way compared to other hospitals. I'd really hate to leave it.

We got nothing. Not even a thank you from the hospital. Not a thank you from the manager. Not even an acknowledgement that it was a week of any kind.
Seriously, I know budgets are in a crunch, but how about "Thanks, nurses." on the homepage of the website, even.

A bunch of the hospitals in the Boston area actually took out ads in the Boston Globe to thank their nurses. ( Granted I am not sure if they did anything else, at all, for Nurses Week) That seems like a nice gesture to show their nurses that they are not just lumped in with everyone else.

We got lunch bags. I'm excited, no more paper brown bags for me.

My clinic didn't recognize our AA on Secretary's Day. So... since she organizes all things like that... I'm sure we are SCREWED. The other two nurses in my clinic gave me a blank stare when I greeted them with "Happy Nurse's Week" today. One of those was my boss.. Now, I have to go buy my Teacher appreciation gift. And I am going to buy our school nurse (who is wonderful and has called me about the sweetest child on earth several times this year) a gift. Quite honestly, I am ashamed to admit, I have never done that before.
And I think it goes back to "they want to foster a TEAM environment".. The Nurse's might think they are superior to someone if we only recognize THEM. Although, any nurse worth their salt knows a good PCT, housekeeper and secretary are invaluable.

i will reinstate what i posted in a previous post regarding this issue. to the op and to the rest of you in this post, i sincerely apologize for the lack of judgement and sensitivity on your administrator's behalf. however, i have encountered in the past administrations and upper management which such demeanor in order to justify not giving a salary raise or a simple "thank you" they always find the dark side of the coin. therefore, i would like to say that all of you are more than worthy to be commendable, not only during this week but for the work you do throughout the year...happy nurses week, as i send the op and everyone that places an answer in this post a big warm hug from across the miles... aloha~

I worked at the esteemed Mayo Clinic.. I took out the trash and washed the floor.
Nurses are responsible for life... death... and EVERYTHING in between.
