in the other post their talking about bulliess succeed and there another one bullies in the work place.

i just found out the john doe has punch his supervisor in the face because the supervisor got into john doe face calling him a loser, and faggot. has any of you experience something like this yourself or witness this yourself? yea both parties did get fired. the question is how far is to far ?

Everyone has their own definition on how far it too far. What I take off of someone may not be what another person takes.

Obviously what you describe is men behaving badly and it's good to hear both got fired.

You can't fight fire with fire. This is probably not the first incident between the two, it just got carried to an extreme breaking point. I hope I have the professionalism to nip that sort of stuff in the budd before it gets to the point I'm being called names and feel like punching someone's face in.

Bullies is another overused term that crops up. A negative attitude is not bullying- threatening behavior is.

Reading the posts, sometimes the mildest offences, a little bit of short temper, and people cry about bullying. People are not always perfectly nice to one another. In this profession we are not holed up in our offices, so we encounter more of it than others.

I'm not denying that real bullying does not exist, but I think the concept is overused.

Granted the supervisor crossed the line for using derogatory comments, but you cant retaliate with physical force because of words someone said. If I was the supervisor Id go after him criminally just to prove my point. People need to develop thicker skin and not let words get underneath em and lead to physical confrontations.

Had a unit secretary who got into a knock-down-drag-out fight with one of the cafeteria workers over a guy in housekeeping who was messin' with both girls. They were literally rolling down the hallway in front of visitors, God, and everyone.

I wouldn't call it bullying. I'd call it flat-out violence.

My definition of taking things too far is turning the situation personal rather than being about their work performance.

The supervisor should have been reported. It could have been handled differently without it coming to blows. The supervisor was wrong, but the employee has the responsibility of behaving like an adult and not getting violent.

Are these people nurses? You never mentioned that in the post.

it's shocking enough to read of a supervisor calling another names.

but whoever it is, name-calling, verbal arguments, antagonism and physical fighting, are all unacceptable behaviors: whether in the workplace or not.

some call it bullying, others call it violence.

i call it plain pathetic.

and it shouldn't be tolerated.

i once had a supervisor shove me into a bedside table in a patient room. the patient was unresponsive; the surgery fellow whom i was assisting just stood there with his jaw hanging. the supervisor said she was "upset" because i "wasn't getting out of her way fast enough." (patient was in vt with an adequate blood pressure and supervisor wanted to shock him, but i wanted to wait until surgery fellow got his hands out of the chest.)

i'd had a difficult relationship with the supervisor since she'd found out i was dating a man she had always wanted to date. (she was married at the time.)

i wanted to take the incident to hr, and the surgeon said he'd be willing to be a witness -- but he died before the meeting happened and we just dropped it. we were all pretty upset about the surgeon's death, and the other just fell by the wayside.

supervisor took herself off to anger management classes, got some marriage counselling and started on antidepressents and was much easier to get along with after that.
