Where Is The Worst place to work in Florida?

U.S.A. Florida

Hello All Florida Nurses & Travelers

I want everyone to be Upfront & Honest With this One! Where is the Absolute WORST PLACE to work as an RN, Or as a Nurse in General In any part of Florida? I want to know of any places that I should avoid, such as Backbreaking work, Low Pay, Poor Staffing, anything considered Negative or Unsuitable. Also, High Liability too. I would much rather hear it straight from the horses mouth instead of finding out the hard way! All Honest Opinions & Personal Experiences will be Greatly Appreciated! If anyone wants to know about California, just ask. Please Respond. Thanks;)

I was born and raised in S. FLorida. I have worked at a Tenet hospital, a Memorial hospital, and at Jackson (main campus), and an HCA facility in Northe Florida. Yes, it truely depends on your experience on the specific unit. But Tenet and HCA, are backbreaking facilities. And its usually across the boards-from ER to OB to OR to PACU to M/S.

The one comment was true; FL is on the low paying side, especially the less populated areas, and the cost of living is ridiculous!!! That's y I started traveling, lol!!!

i have worked at tenet health, baptist health, the university of miami and the public health trust ( jackson memorial hospital). tenet was not bad. the pay was better then the other 3, the enviornment was family oriented, but i worked at coral gables hospital. now palmetto has a ridiculous number of nursing jobs open but that is not a good sign. beware of a mass exodus that leaves a hospital so bare. um has poor pay but good benefits, especially if you want to continue your education. jmh has good pay and great benefits but it is very political and those who have been there for a while no longer think that they have to work to keep their jobs so you are very often doing your job and others. south florida has terrible pay and alot of competition with all the nursing schools in the area. i have spoken alot about my baptist experience and it is summed up in, "do not believe the hype". you have to decide what you want and what you will accept. what is important to you and what are you flexible on. if you know that ahead of time, the job search is much easier.

i am moving to orlando next year, if that tells you anything about what i think.

I would also say " Don't believe the hype" about Baptist...

I work for Florida Medical Center in Ft lauderdale, and i love my floor. The hospital needs to be upgraded but the staff are nice there.

Has anyone worked for the FL medical staffing? They staff the HCA hospitals in Tampa/ St. Pete area. I am moving to the area next week and they have told me they could keep me busy.

The worst H*** HOLE I have ever worked in, in all my years of nursing. The experience made me give up hospital nursing forever!

That hospital is closed; not sure what the exact reason was, I think is was financial.

I retract this. Stay away from this hospital or any Tenet facility

go back :lol2:.

ok ok, are you a new grad? Holy Cross has a new RN program that starts in August.

Thanks for the reply! lol...im starting to think I should go back with everything I have heard...haha. I am actually not a new grad. I have been a nurse for 4 years...primarily in the ER and did work on a medical oncology unit as well. Right now I live in Broward County but my boyfriend and I were hoping to purchase a home up in palm beach county-which seems to be even worse for jobs lol. I look online and I see plenty of openings, but I know absolutely nothing about these places and am hearing such horror stories. Its frustrating. I'm not sure if I want to keep doin the ER...I'm pretty burnt.....

Can someone clarify what the heck the problem is with nursing in Florida??? Our area here in SW PA is on a down turn right now too, but it is still relatively easy to get a new nursing job starting 22-26/hour. My family is relocating to Florida in a year at same time I will be graduating and I am wondering what the heck I am going to do moving to Florida. I thought being it was a big state for retirees that there would be a big demand for nursing down there. Is the state saturated with RN's?

Dino, please see my post to your other thread.

I would say the worst place to work as a nurse would be the WPB area. Those people are rich and crazy and not in a good way. I did a 13 week assignment at a private facility and nearly didn't make it through it, the pts (and management and MDs) were so draining.
