U.S.A. Florida

Hello All Florida Nurses & Travelers

I want everyone to be Upfront & Honest With this One! Where is the Absolute WORST PLACE to work as an RN, Or as a Nurse in General In any part of Florida? I want to know of any places that I should avoid, such as Backbreaking work, Low Pay, Poor Staffing, anything considered Negative or Unsuitable. Also, High Liability too. I would much rather hear it straight from the horses mouth instead of finding out the hard way! All Honest Opinions & Personal Experiences will be Greatly Appreciated! If anyone wants to know about California, just ask. Please Respond. Thanks;)

be.

I personally love working for Florida Hospital.

Florida Hopsital is doing layoffs, not enough patients.

that depends entirely on what floor you work on. we have plenty of overtime on our floor.

I've been looking for a job since June, :( and not even one interview, I have good grades, and I am just so frustated with my situation, I thought that having a bachelor's was going to land me a job, I guess I was wrong :(

Hello, I just read your post and though it is 2 years old I was hoping I could get your opinion. I just graduated as an RN and I have an interview at Coral Gables Hospital soon and was wondering if you could give me some insight, especially when it comes to pay in comparison to others hospitals you have worked for. They told me the base was $22, but I have no idea what the differentials are. Thank you

Yes, I interviewed twice for HCA...two different hospitals. I'll say they were upfront. They talked about making 'gobs of money', take on this shift and that shift left and right. I'm a single mother, dammit. The interviewer scared me out of the office with his intense urgence of accepting shift after shift not forgiving sick days [like I said - I'm a single mother with a six year old - I can't predict when I have to go pick her up]. I declined the offer. No way I can take on that kind of pressure. Not to mention, this was their psychiatric facility, where he told me the philosophy was -'if they get in your way, take 'em down with the needle'. Real therapeutic. If I worked there, I would end up being a patient.

Haven't seen anybody from the Panhandle, so I'll join in:

Pensacola - West Florida is a scary place. My gf just quit as a house supervisor in fear for her license. It is an HCA facility. Sacred Heart and Baptist are both OK.

Tallahassee - Tallahassee Memorial is actually not a bad place. I've been in and around several places, and TMH does a lot of things right. Not everything, but a lot of things. Capital Regional...well, let's just say it's an HCA and leave it right there. :-\

To the person who said Gadsden Memorial was shut down over financial - no, it wasn't. The state came in and closed them down. I worked home health over there and arrived to see a patient who had been admitted at the same time the state was literally wheeling patients out and into ambulances for transfer to other facilites. It's reopened under the auspices of Capital Regional - yes, the HCA facility. Ought to be interesting, if nothing else.

NurseKitten, Yep, I heard about West FL Hosptial. What about their off site medical offices?

As a teenager (like most in FL), I worked a summer at Disney in one of the shows. It is highly, HIGHLY overrated.

They tend to "script" everything for all employees. The perfect "Disney" smile, strict regulations on hair cut, hair color, makeup, clothing, piercings, tats. Using the "Disney" language, you must keep a smile on NO MATTER WHAT!!!! No derogatory language whatsoever.

You start to feel like a pod person.

And, yes, the regs apply to anyone that has any contact with the public....because it is the "Happiest Place on Earth".

.........

I have worked for a hospital a long way from Mouseland with the exact same policy. Smiles were required by HR rules, complaints were viewed as a diciplinary matter that could result in dismissal. "The beatings will continue until the morale improves" was the general policy. Waltworld isn't unusual in deciding it is easier to dictate happiness than cultivate it. Look at how many web posts (and posts on AN) say "the nurses seemed very happy" as an indicator of what a great job the hospital did with patient care. We don't help matters much with all the "I'm sick of all the negative attitudes of the people I work with" threads. Sometimes people complain a lot because there is a lot to complain about. Fortunately I work for a pretty good hospital now. Although things aren't perfect, at least on my unit, there is the sense that good patient care is the highest priority.

Sorry, way off topic- feel free to delete.

i was an agency nurse for years worked at many different facilities , by far the worst was any HCA facility example Kendall regional Aventura Hosp.

but the best hospital i have ever worked for in my 9 years as an RN is Jackson.

also never worked for Baptist, yet!

the question about Coral GABLES hosp. did a couple of shifts there a couple months back and it seemed pretty good, and Tenet is usually good on pay rate too, so goodluck!

I keep seeing HCA.. this may sound silly but what does that stand for??
