Excelsior Pass Rates!!!

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hey everyone,

As I stated earlier, I am planning on going the Excelsior route and am currently waiting for my transcripts to be reviewed. One of my friends told me that a fellow co-worker told him that Excelsior is a rip off and they fail everyone during their CPNE to make more money. Do you know the pass rates of the CPNE? This makes me very nervous!!!! THANKS :D

I think everyone passed in Lubbock this weekend. You just can't predict how weekends will go because not everyone prepares the same way. Raquel, the procedure for appealing a failure is in your study guide. If you don't feel the exam was fairly administered, then appeal. You might be allowed to retest without penalty.

Yes that is my plans.. ty

Did you test in Lubbock?

Did you test in Lubbock?

No, I tested at a site that no longer exists for Excelsior — Ohio in 2008.

Vgeorga...but it seems to ba at all the sites. Another reason i failed is in patient teaching.. i documented the type of teaching i did, what i taught the patient and the patient retuned demonstration and verbalized understanding of teaching, i failed because my note didnt include the patient was ready to learn. How can that constitute of anursibg program? It all in the siscretion of the examiners. They dont like what you wrote or how you did something you fail justt like that. Not fair at all

That's exactly what I failed on my first time. Even though he examiner started she heard me ask or about it but I didn't chart it. Oh well live and learn. I passed my second attempt.

Lubbock is out also now. There is a new site in Alice, TX though.

I did my test in Lubbock. 4 of 4 passed (the other 3 were on their 2nd try).

After I finished they had mentioned that the weekend before only 1 had passed (not sure out of how many).

Yes, they are very particular, and you should know this going into it. 1 mistake and that can be it. Some feel it is the examiner failing them, but it is not. It is their job to be nit picky about the little things. Some examiners are tougher than others. It is doable though, hard, but doable.

As Pixie said, if you feel you were treated unfairly, you can appeal it.

I hesitate to say it (but will anyway), but raquel01, if your testing is like your typing, you really need to study a lot harder. I have a hard time reading your posts, I can only wonder what you written plans look like. If one does not care to type correctly (when you have a built in spell checker), that says a lot about a person.

They are very picky..if the critial elements arnt addressed then you fail, just like that no warning. I just dont see how that can justify failing someone for something like not charting patient ready for teaching. They want you to spend extra money on workshops that are supposed to prepare you to pass the CPNE, isnt that what excelsior supposed to do?

The program is 'self study', you're supposed to prepare yourself to pass. It's really not 'just like that' the study guide tells you that all the critical elements must be addressed or you'll fail, so you've been 'warned'. Teaching is part of the RNs job, why wouldn't you chart it? They don't tell to you take a workshop, that is your option and your choice. Just sayin'. If you prepare, you will pass. Tens of Thousands of RNs have done it. A poll on facebook last year showed the first time pass rate for those who responded was 70 percent. Of course that's not every single student, I'm assuming, just the ones on the facebook groups.

Hello,

I'm very sorry you were not successful. Please plan on trying again. It is doable. Yes, they are very picky, but there are really no surprises. The Study Guide, and specifically the Scoring Tool, states exactly what you must do and what you must chart. All the Critical Elements. Under Patient Teaching, a critical element in charting is 'Assessment of learning readiness'......if not charted, they cannot pass you. It isn't unfair.

What areas in your other PCSs were a problem? We can offer suggestions and help....and please go back and retake it!!

I wish there was a way to compare pass rates per site. I know in theory they should all be equal, and it's all about preparation, but it would be nice to know you weren't signing up for the site that fails more students than others. The vibe I get from reading posts is that the Georgia sites fail more people than New York, but it would be interesting to quantify that.
