Excelsior Pass Rates!!!

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hey everyone,

As I stated earlier, I am planning on going the Excelsior route and am currently waiting for my transcripts to be reviewed. One of my friends told me that a fellow co-worker told him that Excelsior is a rip off and they fail everyone during their CPNE to make more money. Do you know the pass rates of the CPNE? This makes me very nervous!!!! THANKS :D

Thank you, yes that has recently come to my attention. Also are there more requirements besides the tests. I mean regarding mandatory classes instead of the 7 tests? I believe someone mentioned that was a new requirement. If anyone is currently enrolled I would love someone to orient me. Thanks so much for yalls replies in advance!

I tried that route did all and passed CPNE,one instructor was less experienced than a new grad,I was already an experienced RN going for BSN,She gave confusing directions and was disorganized causing me to enter and renter the patients room multiple times,at one point I did not Announce I was not washing my hands again becauseblah blah,..so I fought back and requested intervention, she then threatened me to fail me on that patient situation anyway by downgrading my timing for doing the written part!

Next day I had a different instructor ,I passed with flying colors and she had high praise for my skills..

Back then it w the as 3 days of testing, doing clinicals and lab skills, the next test was TPE assessment etc and one more the PPE.....I decided at that point it was not worth the stress and lack of real support,..I had driven 6 hours ,paid hotel, meals and I was not going to do that again. I have never met an RN who finished the BSN with them only LPNs to RN,...many of which walked out the first day of testing. I went elsewhere for my BSN.

They stopped doing the LPN to BSN and switched to only an ASN as the initial offering; students can continue for the BSN, and I know many who have, but it's no longer directly to BSN. I heard that HAPE exam was awful, like the CPNE part 2. That was discontinued around 2008, I believe.

I passed on my first go. I was an LPN with about 5 years of experience. That was back in 2009, cannot believe it has been that long!! Fast forward to today and I am about to start a masters program. A couple friends that I have kept in touch with from my cohort already are FNP's. I still remember prepping for it and having a complete breakdown from stress early in the day of the evening skills lab. It is a tough exam. There really is no other way to put you through the clinical equivalent of an RN program without a rigorous clinical weekend. If you are not prepared you will fail, if you are weak in important skills, you likely will fail. They gave us a fair chance to pass. Some of the students in my cohort did not pass, though most of us did. As an LPN, I had never worked with children and had never even heard of "short gut syndrome". One of my "clinical experiences" was an incredibly complex pediatric patient with short gut syndrome. Reflecting on that test I realize that although that patient was far out of my league at that time, the instructor was not testing my knowledge as much as my critical thinking skills. Although I took this almost 10 years ago, I am sure the ability to think on your feet and rationalize problems is still a big part of it.

Prepare like they tell you to. At the time I worked in a LTC facility and I would go into the rooms of different residents and do assessments on them...every...single...shift...for about 3 months while waiting for my date... BE PREPARED, work hard, think like a nurse, think line an RN, you'll do great.
