does anyone think their experience as an LPN has helped them in the cpne settting?

Absolutely it did. If one works in a hospital the pace and setting is also familiar. I had been an LPN for four years when I tested. Passed on the first try. It wasn't easy, but the key is to study and be able to retain the knowledge under intense pressure.

One of my friends told me that a fellow co-worker told him that Excelsior is a rip off and they fail everyone during their CPNE to make more money.

I know the original post is older, but I had to respond.

If everyone was failed during the CPNE, then no one in existence would be able to call oneself a graduate of Excelsior's ASN degree program. So, since many people have earned the ASN degree through Excelsior, the assertion that everyone has failed the CPNE is blatantly false.

The number of people who have passed the CPNE on the first attempt is numerous.

I really wish EC would release more in-depth statistics. It would be interesting to know the numbers behind the overall rate.

/Agree. First time passer here, no workshop beforehand either. Didn't fail a single PCS or station and did the whole program in 6 months. This is before the FCCA and other added courses, back in the stone age when California was still OK with excelsior.

I was an LPN for 19 years, worked on a very busy rehab floor in LTC & was the MDS/care plan nurse at the time. This combination was invaluable to the CPNE. Seemed like everyone in my group struggled thru the care plans but me. I did not take a workshop. Nearly had the Excelsior study guide memorized & passed everything first time. I had no ideas if the others passed because I was the first one to leave Sunday. I was way more nervous than I ever get over anything but in hindsight, it was actually pretty easy.

Like the others from the stone age, :), no study guide, just the blue book. I dIdn't find it easy because of the pressure to get it right the first time, and time constraints. But excelsior doesn't ask a nurse to do challenging tasks at the actual bed side.

Study care plans, so you can rattle them off quickly.

Out the six in my class, two failed. Two others failed a portion (lab and patient respectively) but passed the second attempt.

I read somewhere that the EC pass rate is 61% but that people who use social media for peer support and take a workshop are at a 83% pass rate. :cat:

Just went through it (actually driving home now from the testing sote) very hard..the examinera are very picky. One of thr areas they failed me oe is because of my nursig interventions. Ec cnsidered it a assesent not an intervention..i fot it from the most recent Ec appeoved nursing dx book under section nursing dz book.

Out of the 5 students 4 students failed when i left was not sure about the 5th student. I left before her, and one student was a repeat student. The examinera make it more stressful they were rushy you, and not consistant, one examiner alloelwed extra time for a student to finish their charting and another examiner failed a student because they didnt finish their charting at the alloted time. Etc. I can go o and on

Vgeorga...but it seems to ba at all the sites. Another reason i failed is in patient teaching.. i documented the type of teaching i did, what i taught the patient and the patient retuned demonstration and verbalized understanding of teaching, i failed because my note didnt include the patient was ready to learn. How can that constitute of anursibg program? It all in the siscretion of the examiners. They dont like what you wrote or how you did something you fail justt like that. Not fair at all
