Excelsior Pass Rates!!!

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hey everyone,

As I stated earlier, I am planning on going the Excelsior route and am currently waiting for my transcripts to be reviewed. One of my friends told me that a fellow co-worker told him that Excelsior is a rip off and they fail everyone during their CPNE to make more money. Do you know the pass rates of the CPNE? This makes me very nervous!!!! THANKS :D

i passed my CPNE on the 1st. try.

Im glad that their are people who are letting those who are considering EC know that the CPNE is doable on the first try. Alot of other post have almost discouraged me from going this route. I guess it is know different that getting to the end of a semester or quarter at a traditional school and failing out with only one more sem/quarter to go. Best of luck to everyone...no matter their choice. But i think i will give EC a try, waiting on my transcripts so i can get them in the mail...

I failed my first CPNE and I can tell you that it was totally my own fault. I didn't fail one nursing thing--I failed because I let my nerves rattle me and make me act stupid. (As in identifying the patient--the first thing I did was ID my patient by name but I got interrupted and forgot to check the second ID point when I restarted. No way I'd do that in real life, but I just can't express to you how anxious I was.) And I was totally blown away by how anxious I was, because I never get nervous! I know that for one guy and one girl who failed with me, it was the same thing--all nerves, they didn't follow the CPNE protocol, and didn't fail any actual nursing skills. So, my advice is to be prepared for that :)

My friend just did her CPNE in May and passed. She said it was hard and the the nurses' were mean and ****** but she still was able to pass. She actually didn't go through the Excelsior program...she did TCN (which she said she wishes she didn't do) but with all that said she passed. And Excelsior has a workshop and dvd's that you can use to prepare. I know when it comes to that point for me I will use all the resources I can b/c I do want to pass on the first try.

Your friend DID "go through" Excelsior. Excelsior is the college that grants the degree. All TCN does is provide study materials for the Excelsior exams.

I know...I mean she didn't sign up with Excelsior and do their whole program. She went through TCN which she regrest b/c it costs way more than just doing excelsior and she's stuck with a contract making payments. There's no need for TCN to do Excelsior.

yes your friend did "sign up" with excelsior because excelsior college is the provider of the cpne and the grantor of the nursing degree. what your friend did is used a middleman, aka publishing company and thus costing her more money. what tcn does is just gives you the books to study and when you are ready, you take the excelsior nursing exams at pearsonvue. you are confusing tcn with excelsior. tcn is not a college.

The pass rate for the CPNE is consistently in the vicinity of 60%. There is a chance that you might fail it three times and be out of money, time, and your goal. But if you don't try, then you will be out anyway. You need to look at all of your options, including doing nothing, to see what is best for you.

I've passed 2 of the nursing tests so far and have been reading horror stories about CPNE (I know I shouldn't be worrying about it just yet, can't help myself!). So glad to read some positive experiences!

Know your care plans, front back over and under. Use the Mosby's book of nursing diagnosis to formulate your care plans, otherwise you won't pass the planning phase.

I almost didn't do EC because someone at my job went on and on about how the school ripped them off because they could not pass the CPNE x2. It scared my to DEATH! I got on the EC website and allnurses to learned more about the process and decided to do it. I was a brand new LPN and finished the EC program in 1 yr. Got to the CPNE and passed with no repeats. Now I am a RN on a Neuroscience floor making alot more money than before. Dont focus on what others say. Some people don't pass are bitter and talk bad about the school. You have to go to the CPNE prepared. They allow you to fail all the labs once, fail 1 adult and 1 Peds patient scenarios before they send you packing. Keep your ears filled with positive throughts and get through the nursing exams. Some people get so wired up over the CPNE and can't stay motived to pass the Nursing Test. Take it one step at a time and keep your eye on the prize.

YOU AND LUNAH ARE MY INSPIRATION AND HEROES!!! I'm looking forward to becoming an EC grad and RN!!!! ?

I did pass on the first time with no repeats but it is no joke, very stressful and difficult but doable if you put all of your heart and soul into it. You must know this stuff inside and out . Please do a workshop in person or on line . I did both and dont think i would have passed without them. Mnemonics were my best friend. I did them even for the labs . Just as a checkoff list if you have the steps memorized before you walk out of the room go over your checklist ( mnemonics) . It keeps you focused and on track because there will be interruptions and nerves mAy be on high alert . Good luck to all cpne testers . Study hard you can do it. If you would like a copy of my lab mnemonics i would be glad to share . I used all of the assessment and management mnemonics from sherry taylor with a little tweek here and there. Sherry's on line work shop worth every penny.
