California's 2011 New Grad Program

U.S.A. California

Published

When I saw that Torrence Memorial had closed their applications to their New Grad program starting in March 2011 I realized we needed a new grad 2011 thread! The 2010 thread was a great place to ask questions and get answers about upcoming new grad opportunities. So let's make this thread the same. :)

First off, When did you graduate?

Any old new grads out there? How long have you been looking for a job?

Specializes in Med-Surg/ Tele/ DOU.

Don't give up!! You didn't make this far with Nursing School and passing the NCLEX to give up now. You've gotta look every where for a job and use as much connections you can to get your foot in the door.

I was able to get a job at a Sub-Acute, because my cousin worked there. Feels a little degrading that I can't do it on my own merit, but its really hard out there. Also you need to do all you can to stand out. Get all your certs, volunteer at hospitals and get to know the unit managers.

Specializes in ED, Tele, L&D.

FYI - Sharp's Summer New Grad application period starts tomorrow (Mar 8). Good luck!

I got an email yesterday too for Scripps Interview. Seems a little rushed, and unclear. Mine is for Wednesday.

Specializes in Medical Surgical.

How did the Hoag information session go today? I am curious. Please tell us.

Just got home from the New Grad Session. It went well, the lines where super long, and if you didn't get in line early for the ED, ICU or SUB ICU, it would've been at least 30-45 minutes wait. I only put resumes to Oncology and Med-Surg. The two I wanted.. So those going to other sessions, don't bring a bunch of resumes. Probably 5 tops. I printed out 20 =(.

@har-es, when is yours Wednesday? Mine is at 1pm. And if you don't mind me asking, do you have your BSN. Just checking, because the only ones I've seen get interviews were BSNs....

One of my classmates got hired after one of the information sessions. He got his BSN from Cal State LB, was a medic in the Army and was working as a OT assistant while in school... So he had lots of experience. Not sure if she got hired, but another classmate had EMT experience and was going for the ER. The guys I heard from, mostly said that they pretty much disregarded anyone whom didn't have a BSN or higher.

Talking about Dustin? I think we had some classes together.

See you on Wednesday @ Scripps. My interview is 2 pm.

Haha, yeah that's Dustin. Did you graduate with Dustin? This is Jojo Lota, I graduated in December and married to Christine.

Good luck at Scripps!!

This is the email I got from Scripps:

Thank you for applying to Scripps!

After careful review, your online application was selected to proceed and has been sent to the hiring manager for consideration. If the hiring manager determines your background is a match, will receive another email with an appointment date and time for either Mar. 7th, 8th or 9th of next week. Due to the large number of interviews we cannot accept preferences.

We ask that you do not call the recruiter regarding the interviews. This will only slow down our process. You can also check your status online through your applicant profile. If you are getting this email you do not need to be concern about not getting the next one. If you do not have an email by Wednesday, March 9th it is safe to say you were not selected to move forward.

We have 636 applications. We are working as fast as we can. We do ask for your patience at this time.

Thank you for your time and interest in Scripps.

Kindest Regards,

Scripps Health Recruitment

OK so I have not yet received an email back so I guess I wasn't selected. But I'm okay really. I have a job. My LVN experience on med/surg doesn't count but if I just keep this job and get that one year or more of RN experience then I can go other places.

What I'm concerned about are my friends who don't yet have a job and zero experience. It seems even the new grad programs favor those with experience.

Good luck to everyone! :D

Not sure but I believe this program is closed.. I called the recruiter last week to see if there was any new grad opportunities and she said this was one of them but it was already filled.

UCLA is up, make sure to apply early because I applied last time on the last day and they emailed me back saying that they couldn't even look at my application.

I heard Sharp is up! Not sure when White Memorial and Northridge will be up.
