When I saw that Torrence Memorial had closed their applications to their New Grad program starting in March 2011 I realized we needed a new grad 2011 thread! The 2010 thread was a great place to ask questions and get answers about upcoming new grad opportunities. So let's make this thread the same. :)
First off, When did you graduate?
2011 New Grad Opportunities in California. Anyone waiting on hearing back after applying?

Dameron Hospital has a Versant Residency New Grad Program
But it says applications process TBA
Any old new grads out there? How long have you been looking for a job?
Got my interview for Scripps on Wednesday.
@ LDrnWNB, I'm wondering the same. Also not sure if the 600 is those whom applied or if that's the number of people that got passed the first review process.
I'm thinking it's around 200 people. Has anyone interviewed for Scripps before? Any advice.
I'm signed up for the info session at Hoag, but I'm not sure I'm going to go. It depends on if I can get off work two hours early or not. I went to the last one, and spent most of my time in super-long lines waiting to talk to unit directors. They all said that they weren't hiring at the moment, and to check the website for new grad positions. I graduated at the end of July and have been checking the website since last spring....and I've never seen a new grad position posted. Not once.
I really don't get why they have this event when they don't have any new grad jobs... They probably hire internal applicants.
What surprises me is that their new grad program is 8 weeks long...that's the shortest one I've seen out of all the hospitals I've applied at...
I thought you could only go to the info session if you were already hired there. At least that's what I read on their website. Do they interview people on the spot? Do we need to bring our resumes?
Please let me know.........thanks!!!!
Daniela
jojonavy: I am going to Hoag's information session tomorrow.
No, it's not for people who have been hired already. It's for new grads interested in Hoag's new grad program. They definitely don't interview people on the spot, although they do take your resume. In fact, you're supposed to bring 20 copies of it. Pretty sure they just throw them away though...
I went to the previous information session, and there were several hundred people there, and we all stood in long lines waiting to talk to hiring managers, all of whom said that they weren't hiring but to keep checking the website. I've checked the website countless times since last spring, before I even graduated, and have never seen a new grad posting...
Thank you so much for the info!!!!! I wonder why they have this information sessions if they don't have jobs available. I've been checking their website too and have never seen a New Grad position posted.
This is so discouraging, I'm really losing hope to ever find a job! Unfortunately I can't wait for a year to find a job as a nurse, I might just have to leave the profession without even starting it!!!! I applied everywhere all over California even in small rural towns but nothing came up. I also applied to LTC, SNF, Hospices,etc.....I don't know what else to do......
Maybe I'll see you tomorrow.

One of my classmates got hired after one of the information sessions. He got his BSN from Cal State LB, was a medic in the Army and was working as a OT assistant while in school... So he had lots of experience. Not sure if she got hired, but another classmate had EMT experience and was going for the ER. The guys I heard from, mostly said that they pretty much disregarded anyone whom didn't have a BSN or higher.
