I'll never understand why people would wear these shoes, or those "Shape-Ups" shoes. No thanks. I'd rather not look like a fool and/or kill my back.

Wow, does anyone remember moon shoes from the early 90's? That is what those remind me of.

They are definitely ugly, but I know people with back problems who swear by them. I'd probably try them out if they were in my price range...I've gotten past being bothered by wearing ugly shoes to work if it means coming home and not feeling like my feet are going to fall off!

Fugly they may be, but they're the only thing I'll wear to work. I was worried about twisting my ankle, too ... but the springs' base is wide enough that it really isn't that unstable. They can also enclose the spring so that they don't look soooo unusual.
They're not for everyone - they're heavy and feel a bit like wearing steel-toed boots. They are not good for working on an uneven surface like a construction site or outdoors. Unless you get the heel enclosed, they also pose an increased tripping hazard - you can catch the heel on trailing cords on the floor.
They're also quite expensive - close to $200 now - but the good news is that the only thing that really wears out is the spring/heelpad. You can get those replaced for about $50 without buying a whole new pair. Mine are going on 8 years old, now.
BTW - where do you think the sneaker companies got the idea? Z-Coils have been around for over 10 years.

Wait wait wait. I do not have those. I googled them because what was described is not that. I have the zig-tech. (Below)

I would wear these.
Extremely comfortable! They look stiff but they actually are very flexible yet sturdy enough to support the entire foot.

I know someone who wears them exclusively. I think they are the ugliest shoe ever, but she let me try them on and they are incredibly comfy. I have some knee and lower back/hip issues and when I was walking around in them all that discomfort went away.
I would never wear them to school because of the coil possibility getting caught it cords and such, and I would never wear them on a daily basis because of the uglyness of them but they are very comfy.

As butt-ugly as they look, I am very tempted to at least TRY them on. I would have to think that anyone who swears by them did not just go out and buy them without walking in them first. I went to the website and noticed (at least for men) that they have Z-COIL DRESS SHOES! Oxfords and wingtips, like what lawyers wear! OMG, I would draw the line there, those would look ridiculous with a suit! Just sayin' ... !!!
