I only heard bout this but I was shocked beyond belief when I heard this. My nursing instructor brought it up in class today. An 86 year old woman was on good morning america last wekk and she had a one yr old child that she gave birth to (natrually). I idn't think that women at this age could still have children. I would have thought that she would have gone through menopause. She is the oldest woman to ever give birth. I really don't know if this is true but I can not see my instructor lying about this. Someone may have already started a thread on this. If so Sorry to reiterate. I just heard about it.:uhoh21: :imbar
Here's a link about it.
Wow, what a story. Thanks for that link.
Having had a child at 43, I'm a bit prejudiced in favor of letting each family decide for themselves. Also, the "elderly" population is changing - no longer content to sit in rocking chairs, they are active and healthy. There are many articles on this and with the boomers finally getting "old" that trend will continue.
My 83 year old father-in-law and my 79 year old mother-in-law have cared for my son since he was 4 months old when I returned to work part-time and they had no problem with an infant or toddler or preschooler. They keep up with him fine - they all do take a nap together in the afternoon, which my son does anyway.
I really think age is not necessarily the only indicator here.

I actually heard that the lady that did this it wasn't her kid she was carrying it was her daughters.
She didn't have any other children I believe. This pregnancy was the result of egg donation, so the child is not hers biologically. A lot of women over the age of 40 in particular need to consider egg donation if they struggle with infertility. A friend of mine had two kids this way. (they are total cuties, btw!)
I would much rather have a mom for a short period of time who loved me and wanted me with all her heart then a lifetime with a mom who didn't. Just my two cents. And of course their are other issues involved. But the rest are just details.Elizabeth Latham
Are those the only two choices for the viewpoints on this? Because those are both lousy options. Just because there are children born to terrible younger parents doesn't mean that is justification for old people to start having babies because they want them.
Of course its not. I'm just stating an opinion.

That is just so sad....on so many levels

I guess that depends on where your faith lies.
As if God dictates who gets pregnant and who does not! So, is that why the infertile couples among us suffer for years trying while crackheads and teenagers on prom night get pregnant instantly? Of course not. Getting pregnant isn't a miracle, it's biology. This woman would have never conceived spontaneously. And if she did - now THAT would be a miracle.

Just because something is written in a book doesn't qualify it as "true". Didn't it also state that moses had lived to 700...or was it only 300 years?
