87 yr old new mother

Published

I only heard bout this but I was shocked beyond belief when I heard this. My nursing instructor brought it up in class today. An 86 year old woman was on good morning america last wekk and she had a one yr old child that she gave birth to (natrually). I idn't think that women at this age could still have children. I would have thought that she would have gone through menopause. She is the oldest woman to ever give birth. I really don't know if this is true but I can not see my instructor lying about this. Someone may have already started a thread on this. If so Sorry to reiterate. I just heard about it.:uhoh21: :uhoh3: :imbar

As if God dictates who gets pregnant and who does not! So, is that why the infertile couples among us suffer for years trying while crackheads and teenagers on prom night get pregnant instantly? Of course not. Getting pregnant isn't a miracle, it's biology. This woman would have never conceived spontaneously. And if she did - now THAT would be a miracle.

Like I said earlier, I guess that is where your faith lies. My beliefs are that everything happens for a reason, whether or not we know that reason or understand it.

However, you are entitled to your beliefs, and I respect those, and request that you respect mine.

It is not for us to decide or judge, we are to support, appreciate, educate and nurture. I certainly would have a lot of questions for a 66yo new mother though. And at one time we lived to our 30's and 40's, now we are having kids at that age. Maybe she is just a bit ahead of times.

That is just so sad....on so many levels

I am speechless.

Of course I respect your faith, why wouldn't I? However, if you believe there is a God-related reason why a 66 y/o woman gives birth, or why the McCaughey septuplets were born, I sure don't believe it - anymore than I believe there is a God-related reason that people get HIV or suffer infertility or are born with Down's Syndrome.

I believe those reasons have more to do with things like...oh...fertility treatments, luck, viruses, faulty plumbing and chromosomes. But if you want to put in all back in God's lap I guess I can see your point.
