Your Uniform....

Just curious how many of you wear scrubs vs casual clothes to your school. The other nurses in my district wear casual clothes at their schools. I am a new nurse to the district and I feel like wearing scrubs would be a little more appropriate as I deal with the special ed population and a lot spitting, drooling, etc.,

Maybe you could go to a doctor's store to buy some doctory accessories now that we all know what nurses wear.

I'd just show up in them. If anyone asks why you've changed just state the reasons you gave or say as a nurse that's what you're more comfortable in.

I think scrubs identify who we are and what we do.What could be wrong with that?

I asked up front at the school I PRN at. I was thankfully told its up to me. Frankly, I don't know how to dress like an adult. I got scrubs that matched the school's colors.

My biggest problem is my butt changes my pants size a lot. I can't find clothes that fit in a way I like, and the way my butt seasonally yoyos sizes, I'll be lucky if the clothes want to fit a month later. I don't want to wear anything but scrubs and pjs forever.

When I did my public health nursing clinical in an elementary school, the school nurse (my preceptor) wore scrubs every day, but I was required by my nursing program to wear street clothes. Some of the kids thought I was a teacher!

The nurses at my kids' schools seem to wear whatever they like. If I worked as a school nurse, I would TOTALLY wear scrubs. They are the most comfortable work clothes I've ever had (of course, I work in PACU, so my scrubs are just miraculously there, clean and folded, for me every single shift, which is suhhh-WEET).

The school I sub at, the nurses wear street clothes. At my regular PT school nurse job, there is a uniform policy for all students and staff so I wear scrubs in the school colors that match the uniform. I prefer the scrubs so much that I asked my nurse leader where I sub if I could wear scrubs instead and she said no problem!

I started wearing scrubs today! I have on black scrub pants and a scrub top that almost could pass as a shirt along with a black sweater...no one has said anything yet! I will slowly start wearing the more casual scrubs ;-):up:

In my school system, we have mostly "clinic attendants", not school nurses. It's explicitly stated in the handbook that you aren't allowed to wear scrubs, unless you are an actual nurse. I am. I wore "regular" clothes the first day and promptly scrapped that! I've gotten some looks for the scrubs, mostly because the kids aren't used to seeing someone at school wear the scrubs, but so far so good. I'm pretty noticeable (it's my first week) and they know who the nurse is.

I much prefer to wear casual dress clothes rather than scrubs. Always comfortable shoes I can move around in. I feel more like I am part of the educational team if I am dressed like my co-workers.
