My school just got a $450,000 grant and they are accelerating the construction of our new school. Woohoo! Not knowing anything about health suites, I was wondering what I should request? Administration is also on board to install observation cameras (thanks, OD). Bathrooms are right next door, will request doors, if feasible. Thanks so much.
You need to have a private office with a phone, desk, computer, shelves, file cabinets with a window out to the clinic/cots and ideally a window to the outside as well. A handicap access bathroom is a must and a shower with a hand held shower head is very useful. I like having sliding curtains between my cots as well. Lucky you. Hope they actually listen to your input!
I have pretty good space, but would love a light dimmer, a door that closes to waiting room automatically and could be opened with a remote (my desk is just a little too far away to reach and there really is no other way to configure the furniture)
If I were you, I would ask for
HC access toilet and shower, lots of storage, an AED to be in my office, my own fax!, a color printer, a utility sink with foot pedals, a room that can used for isolation...the list is endless!
What's the Hvac system in your office like? Are you at the mercy of the school? Do you have a window unit a/c? Do you have a univent? I had a small heat/ ac unit installed in my ceiling and it's wonderful. I can cool my room quickly when it's hot for those that may come in over heating, i can make it toasty in here in the winter.

Excellent thought. Worse than that, my one principal loves to open doors all the time, if it's above 40, they're open. My door closed means the room is roasting as the heat is trapped. A mini split system is an excellent idea.

Ask for dim able lights in at least part of the clinic, very helpful for kids w/migraines, not hard to do during construction.
I would like more than one resting cot with at least half walls or semi partitions between for privacy. In one of my buildings they built (without input!) bathrooms right in the resting cot "bay". Great for the student resting, but difficult for the kid who comes in and NEEDS the bathroom--have to walk past the kid on the cot.(yuck)
Even though they can build in med storage, I would still prefer to use a Sears-style tool chest on wheels that can be rolled right out of the building (if you have ramps or flat entries) in case of evacuation.
However much storage you think you need, ask for more!
