Ok, AN, it's guilty pleasure time. What do you do that you know as a nurse you shouldn't? Chain smoke? Binge drink on the weekends? Lecture a patient on a healthy lifestyle then go home and slam down a whole mac-n-cheese pizza? Ride your kick-a** donorcycle to work? Do back flips on your trampoline while juggling swords?
Out with it!
I used to smoke, quit because I was just plain tired of the stress it caused me at work. I worried if anyone smelled it, killed myself working fast to make sure I got lunch for my one "smoke break" and got anxious when it had been too long since my last. Over two years removed from the habit now.
My place to leave the road of "knowing better" and cross over to "but it feels good" is with what I drink.
"Hi, my name is Apple, and I'm a (Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Orange Crush, Grape Nahi, Coke, Sprite, Barq's Root Beer, Mug Root Beer) aholic."
I think I'm actually more addicted to the caffeine than anything else. I once went through caffeine withdraw and.......it was awful. I've cut back a good bit with the soft drinks but haven't reached my goal of 1/day.
Sometimes I salt already salted chips. Secretly though....I do it when everyone is looking away

Thats sounds delicious, I'll have to try that.
Substitute black pepper for the salt and we'd be best buds though. When I cook, I over use it.

I don't like pepper.
I don't know anyone else who doesn't like pepper. Am I weird?
I don't even cook with it. I just skip it if called for in a recipe. *shrugs*

Weird? No. Taste is taste.
I make a chilli my family loves and the primary seasoning is black pepper though. I use the stuff that comes out of a grinder though, not the stuff you see in the shakers at restaurants that is bland and tasteless.
Guess if I make a batch of chilli, I shouldn't offer it to you.
Salt on the other hand, I'm not a fan of. I quit going to fast food places because I felt so guilty about asking for french fries without the salt. It'd hold up the line and everything else. But I just can't eat it with the amt. they put on there.
BTW, my fav. chips out there right now is Lay's Lightly Salted. mmmmm
Yeah, there is one fast-food chicken place where they drown everything in excessive salt.....and I like salt, but their food will put a pucker on you the moment you put it in your mouth. It gives me the shivers and make me so thirsty for the rest of the day/evening that I drink fluids until I am bloated, trying to quench that thirst. I usually get their salad now, instead.

I made turkey chili tonight and used red pepper, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Oh, and 2 kinds of cut up pepper.

It's really just black pepper I don't like. I'm ok with the other kinds in moderation. I'm not a huge fan of spicy things though. Except tabasco sauce. I could drink the stuff (ok, not really, but I do like it on scrambled eggs and hash browns!)

Have you tried the dried chipotle pepper flakes I've now seen making the rounds through the markets up here? Like regular Dago crushed red pepper only chipotle/adobo. Smoky, spicy, just a hint of sweet. I've been using them in everything lately. Just bought the Costco size. I'm in a smaller city through so these may not be that new....just new to me! :)
I received a surprise gift of a Traeger last weekend. I made smoked brisket for my husband with these added to the rub, and smoked salmon for me with the peppers and some super ripe orange wedges, zest, and juice. Turned out to be a great combo with a relatively big Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from Erath. :)
I tried turkey chili once and didn't like the results. I don't think it was the turkey though so, I may try it again.
I'm also considering adding corn to my chili. I just feel it needs one more vegetable. I put in onion, one red pepper and two green peppers already (and the base is both crushed and diced tomato).

AHA! I am not crazy. When I used the gum (always the cinnamon because it went best with coffee) and drank coffee, my old boss used to get grossed out and tell me I was nuts.
