Apparently per the EEOC's guidelines employers (not just healthcare related) can mandate vaccination of workers. The exception is a "sincerely held religious belief" or a covered disability. Just found out this morning that a chain of for profit LTC/SNF's are rolling out a Covid vaccine mandate for all direct care staff or face indefinite unpaid administrative leave. I am a heavy supporter of vaccination and of the new COVID vaccine and in fact am due to get one in early January. But I am doing so of my own volition. My facility encouraged all workers to sign up for a vaccine and provided information sessions and it's been really effective at getting people to sign up.
Even though I would disagree with someone's choice to not vaccinate, I don't believe they should be mandated at this point.
Yes, your employer can require you to get a COVID-19 vaccine, the EEOC says

I do believe that the right to decline vaccination, travel, and work are fundamental rights protected by our Constitution (as well as other rights). I also believe that the vaccine(s) have both risks as well as benefits but for most people (especially those over 60) the benefits outweigh the risks. However, the decision to vaccinate or not should be a personal one. I also believe that testing for active infection and antibodies prior to vaccination (first and second dose) could mitigate risk of reactions even further. This is especially the case given that these vaccines are authorized under "emergency use" rather than the traditional process.
I honestly don't know how you will feel if you contracted the virus and gave it to your son or other half and they suffer untoward sxs?
You understand it's not just about you but also protecting your loved ones and the public!

I simply don't understand how you can accept that "none" of the over 2000 deaths reported in the VAERS data is related to Covid 19 immunizations while at the same time accepting reasoning that almost everyone who dies (and is Covid positive) is considered to perish from Covid. It simply is not intellectually honest.
I am not sure what is to clarify. If you are speaking of these comments they speak for themselves: Someone said:
AR10’s” as in plural? Why would you need multiple battle rifles? Seriously, why? If for home defense, nowhere near as good a choice as a shotgun. If for hunting, I guess they work if you need to fire multiple rounds quickly to bring down your target as opposed to using say a winchester model 70 bolt action.
And correct me if I’m wrong but you used the fbi means of homicide report, I don’t recollect cars being on that list as a tool for homicide. So ahh, whatchu talkin’ ‘bout willis?
To which I responded:
AR'15's are a good investment. Some of the one's that I paid $500.00 for a few years ago are worth over 2k today. Ammo that I paid less than 10cents per round is now selling well over a dollar per round. AR15's make a good hunting rifle in a "grid down" SHTF scenario as well. Cars are often used as weapons just look at the police officer killed recently at the capital or the Uber driver who died during a recent carjacking by a couple of teenagers. Most of my "social" group have far more guns/ammo than me as I got a "late start". We love guns and see them as an integral part of a free nation.
The problem with clarifying these comments is that it leads back to a deviation from discussion about the vaccines which the moderators have cautioned us to stay within. Still I will address your clarification request.
Guns are legal and protected under the Second Amendment, a good investment and a necessary component for free peoples. What you call "battle rifles" I call the most popular sporting rifle in the United States (a statistical fact)
. I disagree the vaccination is the "only" way to herd immunity. Infection and subsequent antibodies should be at least equivalent, but at a greater cost in lives. Certainly, the Johnson and Johnson vaccine produces an immune response more similar to actual infection rather than the mRNA approach. I am pro vaccine, I just believe they should be voluntary. Again so long as we agree that they should be voluntary we are in agreement.
LOL
You should maybe clarify why talk of vaccine mandates caused you to start talking about firearms.

I would honestly give a Kidney to any person on this board (at least if my estimated GFR were not barely over 60, I probably cannot afford to give up one) without regard to the fact that we might disagree on virtually every issue. I simply don't understand the vitriol on what comes down to a fundamental difference in perspective and opinion.
A mean tone? Bwahahaha
You must have some expectation that people will treat misinformation, dangerous propaganda and nonsense politely duriing a time when people can literally die from ignorance of covid or the vaccines. Not one person is obligated to agree to disagree with misinformation or fear mongering that has basis in partisan politics but not in science. It's interesting that your preference is to persist in telling this group about your vaccine fears while wanting us to just quietly disagree...apparently in silence...to your sharing of covid misinformation. That's not going to happen in a nursing forum. It's, frankly, a bit surprising that you seem to think that nursing forum members would just politely let you spread dangerous baloney about a public health crisis.
It's a shame that perceived vitriolic responses from your peers on this platform doesn't cause some reflection upon the shared beliefs that precipitated the unpleasant responses. You can't change the responses of others but you can change the essence and foundation of your beliefs and fears about these vaccines. Otherwise, if you post nonsense or misinformation that's going to get called out and you probably won't like that tone.
I like many Americans have concerns over the vaccine especially since everyone in my family has had Covid and I’m fairly sure I had it twice. Once back in Dec 2019 when half the ICU had “ground glass opacities” and I came down with a “bad cough and pink eye”. Then I got better and was actually tested positive last June (less symptoms just the conjunctivitis). Again forget about what I think half of the people in many states will likely not be taking this vaccine unless it is the shot or a internment camp choice. Half my family friends and patients feel as strongly about these issues as you but we still have polite disagreements (okay except my brother and law and I degenerate into heated argument and our SO’s force and end to the debate until the next time we get together).
Internment camp? You must be thinking of the former guy. He was all about locking people up, except for people who had actually committed crimes.
But really, do you think each airline will operate their own camp, or will they pool their resources? With Brexit, the UK and the European Union will have to have separate ones, too. Or do you plan to commandeer a British Airlines plan with your AR type weapon to get you on board?

I know I am interrupting the flow of this thread . but can you tell me what “ground glass opacities” means? I have pneumonia several times and this characterisic pops up on my CXR. I was diligent in looking it up but could not find a "clear" description.
It's a non-specific finding on X-ray or CT. (Bolding below is mine).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground-glass_opacity
"Ground-glass opacity (GGO) is a finding seen on chest x-ray (radiograph) or computed tomography (CT) imaging of the lungs. It is typically defined as an area of hazy opacification (x-ray) or increased attenuation (CT) due to air displacement by fluid, airway collapse, fibrosis, or a neoplastic process.[1] When a substance other than air fills an area of the lung it increases that area's density. On both x-ray and CT, this appears more grey or hazy as opposed to the normally dark-appearing lungs. Although it can sometimes be seen in normal lungs, common pathologic causes include infections, interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary edema.[2][3"

Thank you. I appreciate your knowedge and reference. I stupidly went back to work very early many times after the pnuemonia DX and scarred many partsof my lung. Thank you again
