Hi there,
I got called into my nursing instructors office and was admonished for posting online! They looked at my profile info to find out it was me. What do you all think about this? My mistake for posting or invasion of privacy?
Thanks,
Bormio
I have identified both instructors and fellow students. I am sure they have worked out my identity. Could they prove it, no. Will I post ad lib, no. They may not realize I have identified them.
I do not think shouting is the answer to anything. Very inappropriate and very difficult to receive a message that is shouted.
I have taken a view about problems at nursing school and it is this -- keep quiet. Unless your rights are violated (harassment etc.) just pick yourself up and carry on. If they criticize you, say thanks for the feedback. Just get through it.
It must have been quite difficult to be haled up about posted on allnurses. Frankly, I would consider it a lesson learned and a bullet dodged. Change screen names and only share in a general way. If you wonder whether you should post something...then don't.
I hope you aren't too upset about it. Keep your head up and act as professionally as possible so they cannot tag you about something else.
:)Interesting enough there is a case right now that Feds are saying an EMT was illegally fired from her job for facebook comments. I'm very interested to see how it plays out. If you ask me - businesses have wayyyy too much power over our lives these days.
Which is why I don't post anything that would identify me - on any site. Even though I would love to post some news I'm very proud of involving my nursing career of late. Oh well.:)

Do you have a link regarding that case?
I'm not sure what you expect. First, I doubt they actually "yelled" at you, so I'm going to assume you exaggerate a bit anyway. Second, I just looked at your thread history and the thread you started just before this one was completely blasting your nursing program on a public forum.
Now if I were an instructor, and I liked message boards, I would probably look at my local nursing message board and I would for sure read any threads pertaining to the program I teach. So, I wouldn't consider it stalking, especially since you put personal information right in your thread. How could she not know who the offending person was?
Had I seen that thread, I probably also would have asked to talk to you and told you that your online behavior in a public forum saying negative things about our program is inappropriate, I would ask you to stop, and that if you have any concerns in the future that you talk to your nursing instructors as opposed to posting it on the internet.
Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.
I don't see a problem as long as you aren't publicly posting names or bashing your school/employer. WHY would you publicly bash your current school/employers is beyond me. That should be done through pm's to those who want to know. But yeah, posting general stuff, that is too big brother like!
You have to be careful about posting anything online. Many companies, and schools now, will do internet searches on job or school candidates prior to offering a position or a spot in an academic program.
If you do post make certain you don't name names or given any details, including the smallest little thing that could identify a situation at work or school in order to protect yourself.
It is a bit Big Brotherish, but it is also reality.

And THIS is why instructors and students should NOT be friends on facebook. I don't want to know what's on your mind, and you don't want to know what's on my mind
