Like midwifery students of past years, I as well have fallen in love with Yale's GEPN Midwifery program. This question is about the personal statement.
Ive been told that this is the most important part of the application, and that it should tell your story. This was said by Dr. Korevec during the informational, so I'm fairly confident in knowing that's what they want. It should explain why Yale and why nursing. However, whenever someone proofreads my personal statement, they know I'm applying to Yale and say it reads too much like a story and not like a college application essay. It's happened like 3 times and now I'm not sure what to do. Any advice?
thanks!

I didn't have Vanderbildt on my list, but I am deciding between Yale, UPenn, BC and a few others for PMHNP. Yale and Vandy seem evenly matched as far as quality of faculty, instruction, and clinicals. Personally I was really, really impressed with Yale's program; to me, the only drawback was New Haven. And not being really integrated in campus life - but I am an older student, so that part doesn't bother me much. For Vandy, you would be on the main campus, which can be nice, feeling part of the bigger picture. Nashville is a fun place to live and you don't have the long, cold winter. One thing I really liked about Yale that Vandy doesn't have is the collaboration course, where you are working alongside MD and PA students. Also, with CT being an independent practice state (for NPs), the Yale training feels geared towards preparing independent practitioners. A final thing that pushes me to Yale is the cohesive feeling among the students. At the admitted students day, I really got the sense that this is a strong, connected group of students who are learning and working together. That is important to me because I have been through another graduate program, years ago, and the friendships I made there have been so valuable to me, personally and professionally. Vanderbilt, with its distance program, might have a little less of that atmosphere, as students can be more spread out, but I'm just guessing. Good luck with your choice!

Thank you so much! This is very helpful. I am an older student who also went through another graduate program so I can definitely relate with your thoughts. Good point about consideration of the independent practice state. I am from New England so I plan to return after graduation so that is an important point. Thanks again. Best of luck to you as well!
Hi everyone! I will be applying next year, and I have some questions... if anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate it! I am curious if you guys think visits make a difference? I live far away and most likely would have to fly. I would make the trip others feel like it helped them! Also what do you feel is a good GRE range?
Any other tips for applying or anything else would be greatly appreciated ?
For anyone looking for advice on applying for the next cohort I started a blog with tips, tricks, resources...and my personal experience with this process. I plan on updating it while I'm in the program, but let's see how much time I have :). Good luck applying for 2020!
Full disclosure, the ONLY program I didn't get into was Yale, I am on the waitlist. I got into Vanderbilt though and their midwifery program is ranked slightly higher. I still think I have some good advice for those who have their heart set on Yale :).

Hey! For some reason the link isn't working when I try to click on it. I would love to participate in this blog as I am applying for 2020.
Whoops! I used the wrong link. I know about 0 things about blogs (but plenty about these programs :))
This link should work.

@FuturePsychAPRN and @1776lady where did you end up deciding to go for this year? I'm applying to all the schools listed but want to have a clear idea of what each one expects before applying. Thank you!
