  1. You’ll get an email if you are in/waitlisted/ or didn’t get in.
  2. I got my acceptance letter last year on February 22 and I had until March 15th to put down the deposit.
  3. Pre-specialty = enter the program as a non nurse direct entry= Enter the program already a nurse Both result in an MSN
  4. Hi! I am from a non-nursing background and was accepted last year with 3 pre-reqs in process.
  5. Hi Kevin, I’m afraid I might not be that helpful on these topics. I never planned on going part time so I don’t know what the rules are for the specialty year. I also don’t know any pre-specialty students that are doing their specialty year part time. What I have heard from student panels is that they do feel prepared to practice. At the end of the pre specialty year we do Capstone where we basically act like a full on nurse (under supervision of course!!) I talked to a few students who just finished and they felt more than prepared. Every day I hear the just graduated pre specialty students in the hallway say they just passed their NCLEX and the semester ended about a month ago.... I’m in week 4 and it’s a wild ride but I truly feel like VUSN has some sort of magic happening. I already feel like I learned so much and feel prepared for everything they ask of us. That said...its not a walk in the park :). If you can come to an open house!!!!! There is one in October. They do a great job.
  6. If you are a pre specialty MTN student they find your preceptors for you. If you are out of MTN you need to find your own but the placement office will do their best to help you. There are certain specialities that have to be MTN (psych is the only one I can think of right now). not familiar with how direct entry works (student already an RN) but I assume its similar.
  7. Hmm this is completely the opposite of my experience. Every time I call they pick up and my emails are answered relatively quickly. I’ve talked to current students and they said some things are slow...like being notified of your clinical placements. It could be different from pre specialty to specialty, who knows? Just here to share that I’m loving Vandy so far.
  8. Thanks! Is it sort of luck of the draw on when you have community health clinical versus hospital clinical and conference?
  9. Thanks for the info! Do you know if the schedule has changed since your pre-specialty year? On the website, it says we have 1 day off between Wed-Friday? Do you know if the lectures are recorded and/or if we are allowed to record lectures?
  10. I got a few messages that my link doesn't work. Here is an updated one: https://directentrynp.home.blog/2019/04/19/its-been-a-minute/
  11. Whoops! I used the wrong link. I know about 0 things about blogs (but plenty about these programs :)) This link should work. https://directentrynp.home.blog/2019/04/19/its-been-a-minute/
  12. You’re welcome!
  13. For anyone looking for advice on applying for the next cohort I started a blog with tips, tricks, resources...and my personal experience with this process. I plan on updating it while I'm in the program, but let's see how much time I have :). Good luck applying for 2020! Full disclosure, the ONLY program I didn't get into was Yale, I am on the waitlist. I got into Vanderbilt though and their midwifery program is ranked slightly higher. I still think I have some good advice for those who have their heart set on Yale :). https://wordpress.com/stats/day/directentrynp.home.blog
  14. For anyone looking for advice on applying for the next cohort I started a blog with tips, tricks, resources...and my personal experience with this process. I plan on updating it while I'm in the program, but let's see how much time I have :). Good luck applying for 2020! I applied to six schools, got into 5 (Umass is one of them!) and waitlisted at 1 (Yale). https://wordpress.com/stats/day/directentrynp.home.blog
