  1. I did not get anything after putting down my deposit so I called and they confirmed it! You probably won’t get your info for orientation and everything for a while if calling to confirm will ease your mind I say go for it!
  2. Congrats on your acceptance! So right now a typical week is class from 9-5:15 on Monday, Clinical from 6am-2pm on Tue and Wed (there is one evening group from 2pm-10pm). Lab on Thurs from 12:30-4:30 and then class from 9-3 on Friday! There is a good amount of reading and assignments to do at home as well. It's a lot, but manageable! After the first year, you are able to take the NCLEX and begin working as an RN after you pass. It is actually required by the program that you work a certain number of hours before getting the DNP, so they factor in that you will be working in the curriculum for the following years. I personally do not live with roommates, but there are a ton of apartments available in Worcester, and they are much more affordable than the Boston area. If you are located close by you can come down to campus and there area always bulletin boards with people looking for roommates, and once you get your Umass email people send out mass emails all of the time looking for roommates. I know a lot of people that found roommates from the medical school and graduate school of biomedical sciences too!
  3. I picked the family track! I can’t tell you much about it because for the RN year all of the tracks are together. I really love the program so far! It’s a lot of work and sometimes can be a little hectic/disorganized, but the professors are always willing to help and really try to work with the class! The clinical groups are also small so there’s a lot of learning in that setting too! @nbFNP congrats on your acceptance! Sorry I didn’t get back to you before your interview. I was accepted to this program, BC, MGH, Regis and Simmons and this was my top choice. Between tuition and living in worcester vs Boston this program is also the most affordable!
  4. Hey all! Saw the thread for this year and I am a current student in the program! Happy to answer any questions anyone may have ?
  5. Sure! I had a 3.9 GPA and scored a 160 reading and a 161 math on the GRE. I was on the opposite hand and I had no experience at all. They made it clear that they look at the whole applicant. If you are lacking in one area you can make up for it in another. I also made sure that I demonstrated in the essay that I had a clear understanding of all the roles/responsibilities of an NP! ?
  6. Hi! It’s okay to have outstanding prerequisite, I had 1. But I think that they don’t like to see more than 2 so they can get an accurate idea of your grades! I am starting in the fall and just finished my final prerequisite 2 months ago!
  7. Sorry, a 321! 161 math 160 verbal
  8. Hi daisychains11, I don’t think you have to visit the school to improve your chances, but visiting might be helpful in helping you determine what to expect and learn more about the program. I had a 3.8 GPA and a 121 on GRE, but absolutely no healthcare experience, and I was accepted (I did not visit the school). However, even though this was a top choice for me, I ended up attending Umass Medical School’s program, because it allows you to work as an RN after the first year, and I have learned that having RN experience is really important to a lot of hospitals looking to hire NP’s. Also, if money is a factor for you, the Umass Medical program is significantly less expensive, and Worcester is a cheaper place to live and own a car. Hope this helps! ?
  9. Hi Alexandria2, Thanks so much for posting! Can you elaborate on your favorite and least favorite parts of the program? What is your weekly schedule? And have you found it necessary to purchase all books? Thanks! :)
  10. Hi Daisychains11, Good luck, I hope you get in! I was also accepted to all of those schools as well and am choosing UMASS for multiple reasons. First, they offer the DNP degree (BC will too, but it's three years, Simmon's does not). Secondly, they require you to work as an RN after the first year which is great for having an income during the program and gaining experience. I have actually read many forums where current nurses don't respect direct entry NPs because of their lack of nursing experience, and many think that the clinical hours required are far too low compared to PA programs. Working while attending UMASS will give you more hours to be better prepared. I think both are good schools though!
  11. If anyone was waitlisted for FNP I was accepted but will be going to UMass Med, so there will be at least one spot opening!
  12. Hi Nursesrock2134! At the info session I think they said they interview about 2/3 of the applicants. What track did you apply for? I have heard in past years that if not accepted for your choice track it is possible to be offered another one as well. Good luck!
  13. Hi Lprecopio, I actually just submitted my FAFSA and called the financial AID office, they said the info won't even be posted until Mid January and that we have until April or May, so we're ahead of the game!
  14. Does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap online Nutrition Course? This is my only pre req remaining and would like to spend as little money as possible. Thanks! :)
  15. Thank so much! I just joined :)
