Yale GEPN 2019

Published

Like midwifery students of past years, I as well have fallen in love with Yale's GEPN Midwifery program. This question is about the personal statement.

Ive been told that this is the most important part of the application, and that it should tell your story. This was said by Dr. Korevec during the informational, so I'm fairly confident in knowing that's what they want. It should explain why Yale and why nursing. However, whenever someone proofreads my personal statement, they know I'm applying to Yale and say it reads too much like a story and not like a college application essay. It's happened like 3 times and now I'm not sure what to do. Any advice?

thanks!

For those who received a financial aid offer did you submit both the FAFSA and the YSN financial aid application? The email from Sandy only mentioned Fafsa so i only completed that. now im worried.

howarts2020-- I didn't receive financial aid, but I only submitted the FAFSA. Didn't even know the YSN financial aid application existed. I'm going to call them on Tuesday and ask.

I received financial aid but I only filled out a fafsa, I knew nothing of a separate application. Anyone else?

Is anyone else on here still waiting to hear back from other programs?

Yale's deadline to accept the offer (and submit your deposit) is Feb 15. That's right around the time I should be hearing from other programs.

I'm wondering why it's so early (especially since the program doesn't start until late August). I feel like I'm being pressured to make a decision without knowing all my options. Does anyone know if it's been like this in previous years?

Hi,
I was accepted for PMHNP and received financial aid, but I too only completed the FAFSA. I did not receive any merit scholarships... and just emailed the financial aid office to inquire about a separate YSN application.
This program is one of my top choices, but I am not certain whether it is feasible for me to finance it. Apart from my financial aid offer, I will need to apply for private loans and/or Nursing Corps.
Anyone else in a similar situation?

@zf1610 I'm wondering the same thing, and it's nerve-wracking. I applied to 8 programs and likely will not have heard from all of them by the time Yale would need me to submit the deposit. Not sure how best to navigate the situation!

@LMHC2NP same! I am considering writing an email to admissions, but wanted to get a sense if other people felt the same way. I think an email will carry more weight if I can say that other folks are worried about this as well. I don't know that it will change anything, but I think it's worth a shot.

Hi, everyone! Congratulations to those who received good news! Would anyone accepted into the NM/WHNP program mind sharing their stats (GPA, GRE scores) and prior experience? I am planning on applying for the 2020 cohort, and I'm wondering if I even have a chance of getting in.

Congratulations everyone who was accepted! I was waitlisted for NM/WHNP. Anyone else waitlisted for this specialty?

I was waitlisted for the same program. Got the message as I was walking into barre class and burst into tears hahaha.

I got in to three other programs so far, but none have midwifery.

I hope you get in!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to everyone! I’m so beyond thrilled and grateful to have received good news this week! I really appreciate everyone sharing their insights and couragement throughout this process.

I just received an email from YSN Financial Aid- no scholarship/gift for me. It also looks like their tuition is climbing at a steady rate per. Does anyone know if there’s a way to appeal a financial aid decision? The price tag as it stands is simply not feasible for me. Of course I’m looking into other funding options like private’s scholarships (nothing that will amount to $60,000/year ?) and plan to apply to Nurse Corps, but I don’t think we’d be informed about an award prior to when I’d need to make a decision about enrolling, not to mention it’s pretty hard to get! I would love to hear your thoughts/gameplan/etc.! Thanks!

ps- thanks for making an fb group!! I can’t find “Yale GEPN 2019”

If you end up passing on Yale due to costs check out UMASS Medical Graduate School of Nursing. They are the most affordable direct entry program in the state of MA (for MA residents or residents of New England).

Feb 15th is late compared to some other programs. For two of the programs, I got into I had a week to submit my deposit. One told me a couple of months ago, another one told me this month. The only reasonable program so far is Simmons, they made their decisions this week and you have until April to make a decision.

You could request an extension. I was granted one for another program.

Hi JMM - I was waitlisted for that program. During my interview, the person I talked to said that I would have a better chance of getting in if I had SOME birth experience. She suggested becoming a doula.

I have a 4.0 GPA, my GRE scores were barely competitive.

Good luck!!
