Is there a medical word that you absolutely hate? Or one that you can never seem to pronounce correctly?

Hate:

  • Meatus. (Eww)
  • Gargle.

Mispronounce:

Prophylaxis. I ALWAYS say prophylaxicks.

I have a co-worker that says Cefazolin wrong and is convinced she is right. Drives me nuts.

Irregardless (even more annoyed that my autocorrect just completed the word for me because it knew it!)

Flustrated.

FUStrated, no R. Uuuugh!

Specializes in LTC, CPR instructor, First aid instructor..
They are both correct, but I don't get your "happy" statement. Elaborate?
You may be too young to remember, but gay always meant happy or full of happiness in earlier times.

*** meant cigarette in England.

Your point?

My gay friends will be so glad to know they've been identifying wrong all these years.

I hate the word straight. Sticks are straight. I always be sure to introduce myself by saying, "hello, my name is ixchel, and my marriage is heterosexual."

Heck yeah.

Clue used to refer to a ball of yarn, as clew. Theseus followed a trail of yarn to make his way out of the labyrinth of Crete... see how that works?

Naughty used to mean poor - as in having naught. The Calvinistic belief that poor people are immoral led to it's current meaning.

Text used to refer to the written word, now it also refers to the act of sending written words.

Tool used to be a noun for an implement used to do work, now it also means a person being taken advantage of and not too bright.

Language changes, and that's awesome. ?

"Except my AN wife, Farawyn, who may or may not be my internet love thang."

Fagaceae is the botanical name of the Family of trees that includes the genus Quercus (Oak) as well as Fagus (Beech) and chestnuts. In old England to put a fagot on the fire meant to put a bundle of branches on the fire. The relationship of a cigarette to **g seems easy to make.

Beeches oaks and chestnuts were plentiful and burned well.

I have heard that *** came about bc of the hatred and prejudice of men who had sex with each other; they should be burned alive.

Personally, I do not like the word.

But 'gay's okay' and even 'queer can sound dear'.

And now back to
