Why are so many people today shunning real medicine, vaccines etc for hoaxes and gimmicks like essential oils, weight loss powders, etc? Any ideas why so many are turning away from actual medicine?

Was hoping someone was going to point out that the many forms of "witchcraft" are actual religions, and not all practitioners believe solely in alternative medicine.
OP wants to be a surgeon like Daddy ? but needs to insult the cultural and religious beliefs of others to try and prove a point.
Protip: Being the best surgeon in the world doesn't inherently make someone a good person.
You do know that a lot of drugs were made from, get this, plants?

I'm not actually a witch, I was pointing out that the context of the OP could be construed as derogatory or debasing as you pointed out. medical personnel need to be sensitive to the beliefs of others especially patients.

One thing about the medical field is you have to be extra careful about what you say, and how you say it. It is very easy to have a slip of the tongue if you don't monitor what you say. We are all guilty of that. Sometimes even when you try to be mindful of that, it still comes out wrong!
Even actions can get you into hot water. One time I was job shadowing and a RTR mixed the patent with the wrong images and created a mess. She said there was a problem with the machine to the patient. I chuckled about it. My actions(chuckling) were inappropriate.

It's not all pointy hats. Certain ethnic groups have different spiritual practices based in witchcraft, like voudou and brujeria, and they take them very seriously.
Nurse, surgeon, whatever -- you can deeply offend a patient or colleague by mocking their religious practices whether it's something you personally believe in or not.
Even more common religions like Mormonism and Jehovas Witnesses have spiritual practices that dictate what medical care they are able to receive and as a medical provider you have no choice but to respect that.
