Wiping Butt...

What percantage of your time is devoted to wiping butt? I am thinking about going into nursing and would appreciate some input on this issue. Thank you.

Truthfully, id rather be wiping butt than be a butt wipe. I think that is probly a good comparison between nursing and some "other" professions.

Reading the OP's other posts, I don't think it's a troll per se, but rather one of the "I want to be a CRNA, but unfortunately I have to work as a nurse first and I'm all worried about having to wipe a butt because I really just want to go straight to the big bucks" types.

IOW, clueless about both RNs and CRNAs.

I have seen nurses clean up poopy messes so quickly and skillfully that you were left blinking, it happened so fast. Poof, good as new. If I can take a patient from uncomfortable to comfortable that quickly and gently, I will be very, very proud of myself and enjoy doing it!

And as Marie mentioned, we've all encountered the boss who wants their backside wiped for them figuratively, if they can get away with it. I always wanted to ask them, do you wipe your own butt at home, who does it for you?

If you review the OP's post history, a career as far away from getting dirty, and doing the barest minimum hours possible for maximum dollars appears to be the goal.

While stats will keep you clean, it might tax the brain too much and brings in too little money.

Who cares? Nobody likes doing it, but it has to be done. Think about it this way: would you rather be the one cleaning up the mess, or the one sitting in it?

I would have to say you honestly get used to it. I remember being scared and grossed out at the thought of wiping someones butt. I do it daily now and don't blink twice.

In nursing your going to see a lot of body fluids...puke, pee, poop, blood, snot, etc and at times your going to smell a lot of unpleasant things....necrotic flesh, skin that hasn't been bathed in months, etc.

Healthcare is a dirty buisness.

It depends how skilled you are at technique. Some are Ms Tornado lickety spit and have the pt cleaned, lotioned, re-swathed and turned perfectly in 3 short minutes. Practice makes perfect! :icon_twisted:
