Will NCLEX ever REQUIRE BSN???

Nursing Students NCLEX

Im getting married, and I have used this site mainly to ask about questions re...moving..RN to BSN and etc...because we arent sure exactly which route or city we will go/be in.

Im pretty sure we have decided Ill stay home with kids after working a year or couple....My concern is, if thats the case I may or may not continue to RN to BSN...

If I do that, I know I can renew my license as inactive (JUST IN CASE!!!!) but...at some point will NCLEX/etc require the BSN to even do that? I think right now its just a preference and not necessarily require my employers but....will this change to expand to a requirement for the licensing boards???

Many states and hospitals require BSN now, I think NYC still hires Associate Degree Nurses and so does Pennsylvania. That's about it I think. There could be more. Bachelor Degree Nurses will always be looked more favorably upon than ADNs. But no you don't need to have a BSN to take the NCLEX right now. It might be easier to get a job with a bachelors degree, as many hospitals have made it the preferred point of entry.

My facility/health system wants BSN within 5 years of being hired. This is NYC

What on earth are you talking about? What "states" BONs require a BSN degree to take the NCLEX-RN exam???

I think you need to check your facts before posting something so obviously unresearched. Many states besides NY and PA hire ADNs, like more than a few of the 48 other states in the nation?

Also every BON in in country only requires that people have passed an accredited nursing program (dipolma, ADN, or BSN) in order to sit for the NCLEX, FYI.

You can add Connecticut to the list of states who's hospitals still hire ADN/ASN. I graduted with my ASN and I currently work for a hospital in the State.

I think the poster was saying that many of the hospitals in States (other than NY and PA) require a BSN to work in the hospitals (which is totally false). The poster went on to say 'But no you don't need to have a BSN to take the NCLEX right now"

You won't ever have to take NCLEX again if you're licensed so what exactly are you worried about? I'm confused about what exactly you're asking.

It has gotten very difficult to find a job for an RN-ADN with experience in NYC and NJ. Entry level positions req BSN. Getting my BSN stat!

They should. So the folks on their high horse (BSN) can earn that spot on the pedestal. I have a BSN. If that matters.
