I started my pre-req's for nursing in 2004 - 2005. I took chem, A&P1, Bio, and Psych. (I had previously earned an Associates) I stopped to have another baby #3 (my last baby) and we also moved into a new home. I would love to go back to school now if I could, but realistically it won't happen for another year. I will be 35 this November and I feel like this clock is ticking. Becoming a nurse has been something I have wanted for a long time and I'm not ready to give that dream up!
Are there any future nurses who have been in similiar shoes? How did you feel going back to school and not being the 19 year old in your class? I need advice and encouragement! Thanks!
I'm 37 and I'm about to take A&P, I still have a year and a bit of pre reqs to take before I even can get into a program, so I have had the same thought as you, but I feel more sure now that this is what I want to do than I did in my earlie 20's when I made my first attempt. Taking the time to live my life a little, have a family, and get a taste of what it's like to be a grown up was just what I needed, I think.
I only hope that I don't pay for the mistakes I made my first trip through college when it comes time to get into a nursing program in a year or so.

Well, I'll warn you . . . I'm still paying for my disastrous first go-round in college. But I applied for and received an "academic renewal" . . . some schools call them forgiveness . . . but look into it. I was turned down a scholarship last year due to my GPA but I hope to get it this year. Also - get good grades this time if you can!
Good luck!

So far I have a 4.0 since I started back in, and hopefully it wil stay there or not drop too far... :S I am hoping that since so much time has passed (more than 10 years) and also there's a very big difference in my performance... much improvement since returning, that they might consider that and let me in. *crosses fingers*

Yeah, I was the same, but still check into the academic renewal. That will actually remove the bad grades from your record, bring your GPA up, and then it won't be an issue at all, rather than hoping for an exception if they have a GPA requirement.

I'll be 52 in December when I finish my 3rd semester of an ADN program. My grades are always at the average or above in a class of forty students. Physically, I can keep up or run circles around the youngins still chasing kids at home or who party all night.
I've never had anyone at school, in the hospital, or during the internship I was blessed enough to get this summer look twice at me due to my age.
Do what you need to do in the time you need to do it. Age should not be the determining factor.
Best wishes!!
