Will you delete your Facebook account of you get into nursing school?

Published

I've been thinking alot about my Facebook account since all the problems it has brought to people not only in nursing school but also peoples lives.

So my question to you is: if you get accepted to nursing school will you delete your account? Or if in school now will you delete after you graduate?

Maybe but not because of nursing school or graduation.

I've long thought that anything put on the internet will never go away so everything I've ever put on the internet was put there with that in mind, facebook included.

I've also become ever more uncomfortable with the amount and type of information facebook can/has compiled about people. I don't think they have evil intentions but there is unintended consequences and they won't necessarily always be in control of it.

Yep. Also cancel your internet service, mailing address, disconnect your phone line, throw away all recording devices, burn any paper, pens or pencils, paints, crayons you have, smash your printers and comptuters, duct tape your mouth shut, staple your eyelids closed, and block your ear canals.

All the devices above just bring problems into people's lives.

Why would I delete facebook! :sstrs: I don't see your point.

Easy solution. Don't be stupid. I know it's hard to use common sense for some people but it really is worth the effort.

That said, I never once considered deleting my facebook account. I know what is appropriate and what is not.

  • Don't play hooky and then post about it.
  • Don't friend everyone you ever come in contact with.
  • Keep your privacy setting to "friends only"
  • Make sure you get notified when things are tagged with your name. Preemptive damage control is a hell of a lot easier then damage control after the fact.

No - I make it a point to keep my Facebook page tame enough that I wouldn't be embarrassed if my grandmother, my classmates, or my employer were to have access to it. I don't air my dirty laundry on Facebook, complain about my job (or school) on Facebook, discuss politics on Facebook or talk about my bodily functions on Facebook. I'm too lazy to keep track of different privacy settings for different groups of people, so I just follow the general rule that anything I post must be appropriate for all audiences. I use it for what it is - a way to keep up with friends and relatives via little snippets of their lives.

excuse me: it's when i get accepted to nursing school, not if ... :D ... now that we clarified that ...

as far as deleting my facebook account, absolutely not. facebook has become a lifeline in my daily living. it's the major artery to my friends and family across the miles about what is happening in my life and what i am reading and discussing online (supplemented of course with phone calls and skype). it has also reconnected me with friends and family from the past that i had once believed were lost forever. taking that away from me would be quite devastating. that's basically what i use facebook for, and not for time-consuming nonsense such as farmville. as others have said, a common sense approach to what one posts on facebook together with diligent monitoring of one's privacy settings and what certain friends can and cannot see is all that is required to stay out of trouble.

that girl who posted the placenta picture online was a fool. she should have known better. at least i am sure she does now!

edit: came back to add one thing to say that one has to be careful as well what friends to have on your friends list. i don't accept just anyone. and i do have everyone on lists so not everyone on my list can see everything i post.

No I wont be deleting my account. I know whats appropriate and whats not to put of FB.

I'm graduating in June and I deleted mine a week ago. I lead a very tame lifestyle and had only bland family, pet, and home-cooking photos on Facebook. All my privacy settings were "friends only" but I decided that I don't even want my name searchable on Facebook when I start to apply for jobs. You never know who can hack into a private page and what they may not like that seems very tame to you, or what you may have omitted that could make someone toss your resume (ie. not saying you're Christian or something like that)

The only thing I will get rid of are the few FB games that I have started over winter break because they are time wasters. I rely on FB to keep far away friends and family updated with my life. Deleting it outright is a knee jerk reaction, I am grown up enough to pick those who have access and self-censor my own postings.

I agree with all. I don't post anything I'd be ashamed of later etc. I just thought it'd be interesting to hear what people thought.
