Hello Everyone,
My wife just completed her 2nd RN NCLEX exam, she failed the first exam after being asked the maximum number of questions. Of course she was devastated and studied like crazy for the 2nd exam, during this time she never failed any sample tests (I believe she used the Kaplan program).
Anyway, today her test shut off at 75 questions. I feel this is a good sign since she was apparently close to passing the first time, and I doubt she would have regressed to the point of failing after only 75.
My question is, how confident can we be that she passed this time, or is it possible to even guess at this point? I truly doubt she could go thru another failure and all the added study.
Thanks!

I bet she passed if she was close the first time and studied even more this time. There's no way of knowing for sure. I passed after only 75, however I know people who failed after only 75. But, I think if it shuts off at 75 you passed or you did really badly, because supposedly it tries to keep giving you a chance to get above that pass line if you're close to it.
Good luck to her!! The waiting is the hardest part!

The NCLEX is actually randomized on the number of questions. The first test, the computer gave her the long one. This one selected the 75 minimum. It varies. Also, sometimes the test will run experimental questions that don't count toward the scores to see if they are viable as part of the actual test. You can't tell the pass rate by the number of questions.

She passed!! I'd bet on it!! She'd have to fail pretty badly for the computer to shut off at 75 questions! You'll know in about 2 days!!

This is one exam you just can not predict. Best thing to do is forget about it and relax and wait for results. Good luck to her

when will she find out ?? i bet she passed , please let us know the second yu hear !!
thanks for all the replies. We should find out tomorrow and I will post the results. Maybe I am being too optimistic, but based on what I've been reading and the type of questions she was asked, I think she passed. Honestly if she failed I'm not sure what she would do since there is no way she could have prepared more this time around.
Does anyone know people who failed with 75 questions after failing the first exam at 265? In my opinion that would show a big regression...
your wife is so lucky to have you....it speaks volumes that her husband would even come on this website to find out more info about the exam...i had about 4 sata's, many choose what patient that you should evaluate 1st, infection control, and alot of drug ?s, i think that these are higher level ?s, also no calculations......and i shut off at 75 and passed...keep thinking positive until tomorrow
