Why do We eat our young?

Why do you think we eat our young or even our own? Why do you think there is bullying in nursing? Why do you think we almost act like we are out to get other nurses?

Can we agree that NETY is bullying? If so, I assure you that what I've witnessed qualified under your definition.

NETY, at least as we've seen it described over and over on this site, is not bullying. Typically it's either rudeness, the poster's over-sensitiviity or a combination of the two. Labeling such as "bullying" devalues the actual bullying that takes place. (Rarely, but it does take place.)

It doesn't always matter that you don't intend disrespect or unkindness. Some people feel terribly insulted at being corrected. You may find yourself accused of "bullying" just for doing your job as a preceptor.

It's easy to pick on the young people and take advantage of them. I was a new grad just a few years ago and I did not get bullied as badly as some of my friends and co workers when I started. From the stories my fellow nurses have experienced AND watching extreme bullying happen to others, I am surprised those nurses are still in this industry. But it does not stop at new grads, the worst bullying I've witnessed is actually among experienced nurses.
