So last week I ordered my uniforms for this fall. We have to wear all white, plus we had to buy a navy polo shirt. I over heard someone ask another student what the navy polo shirt was for and the student replied that we will wear it on our psych rotation. Why is this?

We wore business casual clothes during my psych clinicals. You'll probably be doing the same thing, but they want the shirt to be able to ID you as a student.

We also wore business casual for our pysch rotation.
We still will be wearing our white pants, but will use the navy polo to go with them instead of our white top. Didn't really know what the reason was.

Many nursing goals with psych patients include improved communication. Most "authorities" (I can't quote you any here besides my instructors ) believe that wearing clinical-type uniforms (white lab coats, scrubs, etc.) creates an "us versus them" mentality, which is actually detrimental. We wore business casual, as did most of the nurses that worked there. Hope that helps!
Yes it did! Thanks!

We were told that business casual in the psych unit was because "all white" has an institutional aura that they want to keep from the patients. They try to make things as normal as possible to detract from that "locked up" feeling so that psych patients can relax in a more therapeutic milieu.
