I live in Chicago and have visited almost every part of Florida, I am actually going to be visiting Ft.Lauderdale at the end on January. I ask anyone here that has ever lived in Florida and they have nothing but terrible things to say. They tell me the schools and education systems are bad and that the majority of the population have low Iq's and are poor. I don't know why this is, everyone seemed pretty normal to me?? I would like to move there one day and start a new life with my husband but I'm worried about salary and job placement for both himself and I. Why are some peoples experiences so bad, its so beautiful and the people are very nice. I just don't get it. Can someone help me understand why this is??
Most of the jobs say at least 1 year of nursing experience is required. However, Maxim may allow new grads. Maxim's ad says "1 year of nursing experience preferred" However, they do not use the word "required" . Maxim seems to need nurses badly so perhaps new grads would be acceptable. Good luck:D.

I have lived in Fl for my entire life. I am 43 and have lived in most regions of the state. Different parts of the state vary so much. You can find what ever you want here. Example: Big city life is in Miami, Orlando and JAX where there is more traffic and more money. Go to Inverness, Crystal River, or Ocala for old Florida thats a little country and laid back with big trees and very pretty. How about beach towns. I live in Merritt Island and there isn't high paying jobs for sure but Cocoa beach is cool. Cape Canaveral Hospital is on a tiny Island in the middle of a big River. Very scenic there. Than the Keys which is very unique and surrounded by water everywhere. College Towns to Disney to Country to beach and everything inbetween. It's all here. There is everything here short of Ski slopes. Yea it's humid for 4 months and yea there are a bunch of lower paying areas but it has everything you could want. From the keys to Panama City there is such diversity you can't stereotype any one place. I will never live anywhere else!!
I live in Florida. I just now checked the weather where I use to live in eastern WA. They are on a "storm watch". Snow and rain is on the way. Snow and rain= very slick, very dangerous icy roads. If I was still in WA, I would be risking my life to go to work. Thank God, I'm here in Florida!!!!

Where in Eastern Washington? I went to HS in Spokane!
Its kinda a mixed bag here. I have days, weeks, months here where Im soo sick of that hot ass sun beating down on me and just wish for the nice change of seasons up in the NW. Than I remember after the winter of 93-94 when we had 100+ days of snow and thinking to my self "no more snow in the boots or cars soo snowed over they looked like giant lumps of snow on the side of the road". Packed up the car and head straight south after that winter when I was 19.
Ya, I miss the mountains, skiing, friendly people (miami as a whole is not friendly in many ways), sane drivers, better prices on grocerys, better prices for rent and a better standard of living.
If I could do like 3-6 months in Miami in an ocean front place or close to ocean it wouldnt be so bad. On a year round basis im not a fan at all. Im stuck here for a few more years but do plan to head back to the United States proper when I finish my masters down here.
Even though Im fluent in Spanish I often am resentfull of the feeling that Im actually in Northern Haiti/Cuba
I use to live in Kennewick,WA. I went for my 1st trip to Gainesville Hawthorne state trail park today. I walked on the La Chua trail and got to see some alligators!!!! What a wonderful place! Only a 10-15 min drive from my apt. It's great. I can get plenty of exericise just walking and I get to see gators too!!!

they are an awesome sight, just dont feed them
Ya we have tons of gators out here in the everglades and cypress natl parks (both really cool places btw!). I suspect some of them gators have been feed cause I was out on a trail and several decent sized gators swam up stealth style while me and my little girls were fishing... I noticed them and got outa there quickly but it was the fist time I had noticed gators approaching me sneakly as opposed to just scurrying away as soon as they heard or saw me on the trails...
