  1. I have lived in Fl for my entire life. I am 43 and have lived in most regions of the state. Different parts of the state vary so much. You can find what ever you want here. Example: Big city life is in Miami, Orlando and JAX where there is more traffic and more money. Go to Inverness, Crystal River, or Ocala for old Florida thats a little country and laid back with big trees and very pretty. How about beach towns. I live in Merritt Island and there isn't high paying jobs for sure but Cocoa beach is cool. Cape Canaveral Hospital is on a tiny Island in the middle of a big River. Very scenic there. Than the Keys which is very unique and surrounded by water everywhere. College Towns to Disney to Country to beach and everything inbetween. It's all here. There is everything here short of Ski slopes. Yea it's humid for 4 months and yea there are a bunch of lower paying areas but it has everything you could want. From the keys to Panama City there is such diversity you can't stereotype any one place. I will never live anywhere else!!
  2. I'm in the same situation as you. I am leaning towards Nursing because it is a broader degree. If you do a Technical degree you have a skill in one specialized area. There are pro's and cons for both. My brother is a doctor and is not very supportive of Nursing for me. He is big on Technical stuff, but I am really feeling that I will be a better fit with Nursing myself. I really like reading the forums on this sight to get a feel what current Nursing are thinking. I am taking the TEAS in about 2 months.
  3. mship703 that is inspiring to me. I have a little money saved (either pay my mortgage for the time Im in school or pay for part of my tuition, 2 kids, but a wife that can work at least part time. I was stressed until I read what your deal is. No money but make it work, you sound determined and almost done with school. So what kind of scholarships did you get? I hope to get some kind of help. I am taking the TEAS in Feb. and interview in April. How is that interview? Any advice???? TEAS advice?? How is Nursing school at Keiser???

I am really happy to hear all of these opinions. It all has me looking forward to seeing if L&D is something I can do. I feel I am good at making people at ease in stress full situations and that I might be good at it. My wife only shot it down as a suggestion that I wouldn't be very accepted as a male Nurse in that field. I have a long way to go and plenty of time to figure it out. I am very unsure as to how it all works. Is that a sought after line of work as an RN? I would imagine an RN fresh out of school won't have a ton of options the first few years. Is that how it goes?? I am very excited about Nursing and currently work at the space center in Florida. I don't care for what I do and am looking forward to working at a job that I can feel as though I am really doing something good for people. I am a little scared because as soon as I commit to a program I will be full time student and our savings will dwindle fast. SCARY!!!

I am trying to get into Nursing school and have thought that I would really like that as well. My wife shot it down. I am glad to hear I'm not the only one. So is that a realistic field for a male NURSE?
