Why do docs go into the staff break room to hang out? There is a doctors lounge right down the hall. Most of the docs are really nice...BUT....do they have a clue that they are some of the very peeps we are trying to get away from for a precious few minutes? GEEZ.......
They are hoping for free food....!!!
If that isn't the truth !
One place I worked had regular potlucks.... the docs can sniff out a free meal from 5 floors away (and we welcomed them- the ones who showed up were great to work with, and we didn't mine them joining in).....now one of the Nursing sups was a different story; she was never around unless to rearrange rooms for "incoming" ED admits for later (sometimes didn't happen for days, at which time none of the moves mattered ), but nuke some potluck food, and she'd appear like Aunt Clara on Bewitched ....
She was basically a pleasant individual...just had dud timing - LOL :)
They're hungry. We feed them.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

docs are part of the health care team -- so if they're in the break room on break, why wouldn't you want to hang out with them? some of them are very interesting people.
we have one physician on our team who won't go near the staff breakroom. i think it's too bad. he'd probably have better working relationships if he brought his lunch and sat with us now and again.

We invite some of the docs in for holiday parties and such. We actually get along pretty well with most. But I get what OP is saying, sometimes when you want to escape, it's not just the patients you want to escape from. And what's up with they can come in our lounge but we can't go in their lounge?
