Why do docs do this?

Why do docs go into the staff break room to hang out? There is a doctors lounge right down the hall. Most of the docs are really nice...BUT....do they have a clue that they are some of the very peeps we are trying to get away from for a precious few minutes? GEEZ.......:uhoh3:

maybe they are trying to develop a team member relationship. Try treating them like co-workers. That might help all of you work better together.

I agree with the previous poster.

In my department we are a team. Physicians are just like any other coworker -- some you may inwardly sigh when you see they're in the break room at the same time you're trying to spend a few quiet minutes in there, but it has nothing to do with their role as physicians.

Classicdame and Altra, I understand what you're saying. That is not the case in this particular situation.

As long as these docs are nice/respectful, I would have no problem with it. Of course, then nursing staff should also have access to the MD lounge! lol (Like that would happen...:uhoh3:)

Our docs don't ever go in our lounge...

They are hoping for free food....!!!

Walk into their's and sit. Take something like a health choice dinner to microwave and stink up the place with. I hate when people eat those things.

Some of my docs do this. I don't mind. They even bring us food. I think they want to be part of the team.

We share ours with our docs without a problem...of course they can't just up and go off anywhere in case the delivery room calls lol We have only had a few we had a problem with and we set them straight PDQ.

I don't see what the problem is.......We both hang out in both lounges equally in my department. We go to the provider's lounge and watch TV during downtime, eat, chat, etc. They also go to the nursing lounge. It sounds like you have an issue with a particular physician going to the lounge rather than physicians as a group using the lounge.

@Meandragon It would be a cold day in hayel before nurses were allowed in the doc's lounge. Thanks for your replies, everyone. Guess you just have to be here. HA!

We invite some of the docs in for holiday parties and such. We actually get along pretty well with most. But I get what OP is saying, sometimes when you want to escape, it's not just the patients you want to escape from. And what's up with they can come in our lounge but we can't go in their lounge?
