Why Do Crna Gets Paid So Much?

Published

have anyone ever check out the salary chart for certified registered nurse anethesia, they get pay ALOT ! more then a pharmacist but why? they only have master degree....and NPS are the same! but way less then theM! http://www.crnajobs.com/crna-careers/main.aspx if you click the 2007 salary report they are getting paid like 120-190k a year WHAT! and NP ranges from 80-110k!

We get paid more because we are worth more. Our services are billed for so we make the hospitals huge some sums of money. In addition it is about supply and demand a lot of demand currently for anesthesia providers. Whether it is a Master's degree or not is irrelevant

Specializes in ICU.

Also CRNA's if acting as a sub-contractor have to supply their own ............did you check out the premiums on that as well?

As of 2011 CRNA's will need to have a PhD to carry a certification.............or so I have been told

Specializes in Emergency Room.

considering their responsibilty, i think they should get paid more. they sacrifice alot to have that responsibilty, so yes i would want top compensation also.

CRNAs get paid more because they deserve it, that's why. The responsibilities of NPs is nothing compared to a CRNA. Not knocking NPs at all, don't get me wrong......it's like a neurosurgeon compared to a doc in the box.

Specializes in ICU, PICC Nurse, Nursing Supervisor.

are you kidding? do you realize what responsibility these people have? when you are under the knife they are the ones that keep you from feeling it.

Hmmmm........thanks??

NPs and CRNAs are NOT the same by any means. They are both APNs, but they are two very eifferent careers.

how much school does it take to be a CRNA as much as NP right? or is different. and yea i made my decision, i'm going to go to university of san francisco undergrad nursing program.

Specializes in Anesthesia.

CRNA's deserve top pay, but NP's are not just doc-in-a-box practitioners. I think a better comparison would be an anesthesiologist compared to a family practice physician. Both are valued but because of the specialization and lesser numbers of the anesthesiologist, the pay is higher.
