Why don't they allow people to bring their pets?

Published

I have heard that they are trying to get people to leave New orleans but the people won't go because they don't want to abandon their pets. Why don't they let the people bring their pets with them? :crying2:

well...I just contacted the humaine societies and they will not give me the time of day! I was the ONE and only turtle rescue person 8 years ago..and for some reason they don't remember! GRRRR!

So basically, I need to put in a year of volunteer work before they will consider having me as a reference for fostering or keeping! Ummmmm hi...took all your reptiles off you 8 years ago...thanks for remembering!

Oh well..beurocrasy...like us nurses don't know that....I found a direct link online..offered my home to the birds...(went through the state EMS services for a person to house...safest for me and my family...I have a younger child...best to be safe).

BUt their contempt over the phone with me was horrid and wrong! Total contempt like I was some groopie of a band..."yeah right you like them..yadda yadda"..I understand too well why...and I use my key words to remind them I am not some transient....but uhhhhhhhhgggggg......

They did say if they have a turtle they will refence me....but I don't have that set up anymore..not something I can not set up in a day or two..but...ummmmmmm...turtles can swim...parrots don't do so well...LOL!

There is no way I would leave without my animals. Unfortunately, I have too many to sneak out! :redpinkhe

Thanks all for your interesting stories about animals There sure are some great animal-loving people here. :saint: God Bless all humane society volunteers and heroes. :)

Some of the people who arrived at Camp Gruber in fact did get to bring their pets. Our SW and my DH were there monday and reported several dogs a few cats and even a bird.

I couldn't leave my dog to starve to death either. I know it seems stupid to many people, but I couldn't leave him behind. We go as a pair or we don't go at all.

On a brighter note...there are several agencies working to rescue the pets left behind also.

Noahs Wish was featured on CNN..they have a website I think its Noahs Wish.org

Those folks along with SPCA and other animal agencies are rescuing many many of the extended family.

They are the most helpless...so much outpouring of aid is coming to the victims..may it continue!! And may it continue as well to the animals...

Yes prmenrs good point. Donations are still needed to save animals. I gave a donation to help the animals last week and again this morning. It is so heartwarming to see the looks on people's faces on TV when they are lucky enough to be reunited with their animal family members. Yes and this would be a good time to remind everyone to get their pets microchipped for so many reasons. :wink2:

Yep, get you pet microchipped. My Wysiwyg got her chip when she got "fixed".

The vet put the chip in for free. It only cost $15 to register it with the company (AVID).

My fiance had a dog that somehow ended up in Florida. The shelter down there where able to locate them in Indiana because the dog had a microchip locator.

I am by no means some tree hugger, PETA nut. But my wonderful kitty helped me recover from a serious depression. I would never leave her behind.

Because of the Hurricane I have gotten the meds I need from the vet to keep her relsxed if needed in an evacuation. I have also revamped my disaster plan to include her.

:kiss

That's wonderful news that your fiance was able to get his dog back OK. That sure is a long way from Indiana to Florida!!!! Yes microchipping is so important. One of my biggest fears, is that if I were in a disaster, that someone would mistake my cat for theirs and try to take her. With the microchip, I can prove that she's mine. I have heard some good news that some rescuers are now allowing some people to take their pets. I heard that a woman refused to be rescued without her 21 dogs so they took her and her 21 dogs!!! :balloons:

21 DOGS! Holy MAckrel!
