  1. On a brighter note...there are several agencies working to rescue the pets left behind also. Noahs Wish was featured on CNN..they have a website I think its Noahs Wish.org Those folks along with SPCA and other animal agencies are rescuing many many of the extended family. They are the most helpless...so much outpouring of aid is coming to the victims..may it continue!! And may it continue as well to the animals...
  2. This may seem silly...but what kind of shoes have you found do your feet some justice after working 12 hour shifts? My shoes seem to break down after a month or so. I have tried Easy Spirit..NIKE...Avia..Brooks...New Balance... Has anyone tried Z Coil? Ive found that if you dont have the right shoes..your back..legs..everything HURTS! Do any of you wear support hose as well? Im not use to these longggg hours... Thanks!
  3. Actually yes there is a program in Florida. Gov Bush announced a program about 3 years ago to aid in purchase with low down payment, low intrest loans for nursing personnel, including EMT's, and other allied health professionals with a state certificate or license. I believe Fannie Mae was one of the participating lenders, and it is called a "community based loan".. You may be able to find some more info on their website, also check the ACHA website for Florida ( Agency for Healthcare Administration)..I believe that is where I first read the article. Im sorry I dont have direct links for you. Harbor Federal Bank, in the Central Florida area I believe also was one of the lenders participating. Good luck to you
  4. With all of the complete devastation that this violent storm left, I am wondering if any of us have thought about alternative ways we can help the victims, the "fear" of gas shortages, rising energy prices, and so on. I must admit that I am one of those who is a little fearful of the domino effect of this disaster. Last year, my family lost our home due to hurricane Frances after it was declared "uninhabitable" by FEMA. We endured 3 hurricanes on our side of the state. I owe a debt of gratitude to one of my nursing supervisors who rented us one of her properties, in which we still live in today. The domino effect took place here when housing shortages caused a 34% increase in the sale prices, and rents. We saw it in our electricity bills, our gasoline prices, and even our food prices. And the same is happening right now, courtesy of Katrina. I am actively thinking of purchasing a motorcycycle or scooter, I will begin walking or riding a bike to the store, and have begun conserving electricity and water as well. I now think of a light being left on as a waste of oil, which may become very scarce, very soon. Please tell me what your thoughts or plans are on alternative solutions.
