  1. I never understand why people/nurses show up to work sick. In all the non-nursing and nursing jobs that I have had nurses would show up to work sick, clock in, take report and then turn around and say i am sick....Administration does not care!!! Because they know they can threaten nurses with abandonment issues, so most will not put in the effort to call for a replacement nurse, most nurses don't want to come in anyway. I personally don't care I start sniffing, coughing, fever, throwing up... I won't come in. I have missed the time frame to call in and have called in sick anyway. Yes I will be reprimanded from the facility but no way in hell would I compromise my license. I tell nurses all the time, you can not be so desperate to not lose your job where it clouds your judgement. And nurses let situations like these cloud their judgement everyday. You can always get another job but the day your license is revoked you are toast. You are on the pavement by yourself. And have to look for a lower paying job until you can pick your self back up. Let's see... that's about 2 yrs to pick yourself back into a different profession versus 2-3 months of looking for a different job. I will not be in any profession where I bullied into caring more for anyone else first above myself. How is that helping the patient? How is that helping management be more efficient? Nope I refuse. I honestly don't believe they will alert the BON. But I would be ready, just in case, as most people said to have a lawyer look into your case. This scenario could have played soo many different ways. Please don't ever compromise your license for anyone...patient included. It's not worth it....the world will continue to run if you are sick, so will the patients, the hospital and the nursing homes. Please keep us posted.
  2. It's an earned title and anyone who has it should use...period! If physicians don't like it, they should introduce themselves as the following:" Hello, I am doctor so and so, with a medical degree"... no confusion there!
  3. Just wanted to know if you did find any good books. I'm in the same predicament. If i find a good one I will let you know.
  4. Sorry... for some reason I missed this answer. Try not to be nervous... I think that helped me alot. My second exam was just as hard as the first. I only scored a couple a points more. Most of my classmates have said that their exam was easy, but when you asked their score, most of them scored in the low 500's. To me that is not easy. You need to know the keywords for diseases such as rashes, fever rashes, rheumatoid ect. I had a lot of crazy questions, I also had alot of the first exam questions that I honestly could not figure out the answer. That Zerwek book is very good, my test had at least 15 questions from there. I still had alot of pharm but this time around I understood the questions better. Alot of them I had to diagnose and treat the patient. So if you don't have a good diagnosis you will miss it. Try to read all your answers before you answer, in order to know which system or disease you are in, it really helps. Most of all study, more than doing questions, somebody said on this board to know your basics, very true. Best of luck to everybody...
  5. Hey everyone, I passed.... :):)
  6. Very happy for you... I am going in about 3 weeks... Blessed for some reason I could not answer you. But I am studying, right now I feel redundant in the info... Like deja vu. I am tired and cranky... and I have to stop working so I can focus on studying only... Hopefully I will pass...
  7. Well I missed it by 25 points... How many bloody questions is that?? lol! Oh well gotta get back to studying. One thing about the AANP, they are on top of everything when it comes to paperwork. They already received my retake application and all.
  8. I already sent everything in on Monday/ 3 days after. I did all the CE's from their website and sent in everything on Monday. I sent in a paper application. I want to test asap. I don't know my score yet. I don't even know if I want to know. Hope this helps. Also if you call them (AANP) they are very helpful. They told me I didn't have to wait for the scores.
  9. Hi, Why not do both? Apply and wait for your current school. It won't hurt. Whoever you get an answer from first will be the one. Hope this helps... Nursing 101
  10. Thanks for posting Blessed...:) I had the barkley and fitzgerald cd's, for books I had the barkley review manual, fitzgerald, leik and zerwekh questions. My anxiety level was very high, it got worse when I saw those type of pharm questions. I hope I don't get th same exam again. My anxiety was bad even when I was studying. I am normally a good test taker but I guess I really want this bad...lol! I found myself not being able to recall simple info and doubting myself. Anyway I am feeling a little better and have done all the CE's and will reapply by Monday. Now I have a strange and good feeling that I will pass. I am not buying anything else. I had the Hollier questions and answers but never had the time to look at it. I will start studying on Sunday, I don't want to forget the info. I want to retest ASAP...lol! Thanks for asking... Will keep u posted. Nursing 101
  11. I didn't pass either and I posted a new thread before I saw this one. I wish I had a study group... It was alot of in-depth questions. So I guess you have to master and not just know it. I am gonna get ready for round 2. I don't wanna wait. Are you guys working or not during this time? I think that was one of problems...
  12. Well I didn't pass the AANP. I just wanted to give an overview of the questions I had. I had alot of specific pharm questions, like if you are allergic to cipro and a erythromycin and tetracycline what do you give for bacterial pneumonia. Exact dosages for certain diseases. I mean I must of had 60 pharm questions, alot of diagnosis questions (which was good) and alot of diagnostic, labs that you would or would not do. I didn't have more than 5 assessment questions. Derm was very tricky and the descriptions were very vague. I am a little discouraged because this sounds nothing like what people have been describing to me. Over all there weren't any diseases that I hadn't seen or heard of or that were not in the review books. Just very specific and in-depth questions. One question had to do with the first pass effect in pharm??? That is like pharm 101. So I gotta re-take this cr.. again...lol. I am not going to wait too long to re-take it. Gotta do CEU's now. If anyone has any advice let me know. nursing 101
  13. Hi everyone, Thanks for your replies... By the time I read the replies I had already purchased the home barkley review. I called to cancel but the lady swore up and down that they were shipped already. Oh well... I'll try to sell them later if they are worth something. His review book does look more in depth than the average review book out there. I will definately listen to you guys and study from several resources. I have the fitzgerald cd's (2004, though) and her latest review book, the ancc fnp review book and the Hollier questions and answers. I am thinking about buying Maria Leik. Don't know if I am overkilling it though...
  14. I am sorry but "the economy" is not an excuse for people to be rude to others. This is happenning to everyone at all levels and in all professions. It feels like a jungle right now where everyone is dismissing the others feelings. I understand that you have to be laid off but just do it in a professional and nice manner. I mean everyone knows the economy is bad. Businesses don't even want to pay unemployment... I am so sorry this happened to you. No one deserves to be treated like this. Do not think in any way or manner that you are at fault. Make sure that your references are clean and that somebody reliable will give you a good one. Ask them for a letter of recommendation. Take a few days and get back in the game. At the end of the day you made the right decision 'cause I would not want to work with people like that.
  15. Hi guys, I am having a tough time trying to figure out which review to go by. Does anyone recommend Barkley? I have the Fitzgerald Cd's from 2004 with the book, the Hollier book, the winland-Brown book and ANCC Family book... I was wondering if that was enough? I am thinking of buying the Barkley review... I am taking the AANP certification... Thanks for any help...
