OK....the wait is killing me:uhoh3: So I thought I would start a thread to see just how many people are waiting like me. If you have heard anything like when we might hear something let us know.
I had a 188 last Fall when I got in the program. We were told the cut off was 180. We had around 500 apply too. We got our letters in July. The day letters went out was the day we could call and find out the cut off. If you guys are in the upper 180's I think you are fine. But get use to the last minute notices. We were told 1 day prior at 4:00pm that we would be starting clinicals the next day:no: And in to be sure to have a certain type of folder that the instructor wanted paperwork turned in with:eek: Really its just the beginning. You learn learn to survive on 2 - 4 hrs a sleep.

I applied (may 2008) with 180 points--not exactly sure what Jeff State is showing my GPA as. I have a BA, and graduated from UAB with a 3.04. But A LOT of those classes Jeff State would not put in because apparently they do not count at Jeff State. Most of which were my upper level major classes which I made great grades in and that is what got my gpa up to 3.04. They are counting like 3 classes I took at Jeff State 14 years ago and did not make good grades in before I got my act together and transfered. At any rate, I had taken all of my science classes at UAB and had B's in Anat and Physiology. All said an done after I took the compass, I ended up with 180 points and went ahead and applied.
Trying not to be negative, but I am concerned that I may not get in with this. So, If I do not, here is my question. THOSE OF YA'LL HAVE TAKEN CLASSES AT JEFF STATE, WHAT SCIENCE CLASSS WOULD YOU ALL SUGGEST I TAKE (OR RE-TAKE) THAT I COULD MAYBE GET AN A IN TO GET MY POINTS UP??????
Just a thought but Faulkner University has an extension in Birmingham and they divide each semester into two sections so that you can take twice the classes in the same amount of time...i.e. they begin summer module 2 in a couple of weeks and you could take a science there to get your grade up and do it this summer in time for the next application due date. I would think 180 would be enough especially given you already have a BA
that is such a shame....also, have you looked at UAB's new program that if you have a bachelors in anything you can enroll in this program and in 7 semesters you have your masters? I've forgotten the name...accelerated MSN or something like that?? this summer was the first time it was offered....
Look on Faulkners web site...A&P 1 and 2, microbiology...not sure what they are offering when but might be an option for you.
Thanks!
Yes, I have met with adviser at UAB. They have the Accelerated BSN and the Nurse Masters thing. for 2nd degree students...I did not apply, but adviser is pretty sure I could get in. Honestly, it is a cost issue for me. I already have loans from my 1st degree and really do not want to take out any more. Also, UAB is strictly a day program. I was hoping to get in Jeff States Night program because I cannot quit work for probably a year. If it weren't for these things I would go to UAB in a heartbeat...I loved it there. I can say I honestly NEVER had a bad professor and was treated 1st rate. If you call anyone at that school, if you don't get someone right then, you will for sure get a call back probably before the end of the day! In my opinion, you get a COMPLETELY different experience at a university vs Jr College. I went to Auburn and UAB!!
When I have kids, and they get ready to college, if we can afford it and they can get in, I will HIGHLY encourage they skip the whole Jr College thing!!
So, I emailed back to the advising desk to clarify what the last point cut off was for the part-time program. It was 180. He said that last fall the cut off ended up being the same for ft & pt but that's usually not the case. I meant to call one of the advisior's numbers last night to see if their vm had changed but I forgot to. Maybe tonight.

Beats me! Wish I knew someone personally on the inside! LOL But as I don't, Im stuck on pins and needles too! Of course as I was sitting here thinking about the points, I am all ticked off at my past teacher again. In the words of Yosemite Sam - "******* Frackin woman"! LOL
She deleted my grades then wouldn't give a bonus back to me - when she was in the wrong. All I needed was 0.7 of a point to make a letter grade difference. So, I have 184 pts rather than 190 - grrrr. Sigh, well I figure (am trying to make myself believe) if I get in then I am meant to be. If I have to wait another year - then maybe there is a reason for that - that I am unaware of at this time!
