Who is planning to retire in a few years?

Published

I am hoping to last 2 more years at the nursing home. If I can last 2 more years, I can then get my full retirement. I don't know if my back will allow me to work 2 more years or not. I am burned out, stressed out and can't wait to get out of nursing FOREVER!!!!So who else is getting ready to retire? What are your plans for retirement?

I hope to in about 5 years. LTC is doing a number on my body. We are moving to south Texas this year and hope to get a job in something different. This is also where we will spend our retirement years. Enjoying the sun and no winter.

So anyway I just found an article about a town in Oregon that is for sale. 356 acres of prime real estate, includes 25 homes, multiple undeveloped home sites, general store, gas station, post office and power plant. There is also a 6 classroom school facility with a gymnasium. All this can be ours for just 4 million dollars. I can come up with about a million and one of the docs I work with can do another but he wants to be named sheriff. Any other investors out there? I know this area of Oregon well - it's pretty secluded but has great possibilities. Plus it has river frontage so fresh salmon and steelhead for dinner is an added benefit.

I plan to work at least 3 more years -- when I will qualify for Medicare. I am not going to retire before that unless I have to because I will need the health insurance coverage. If I still feel good at 65, I might stay in the workforce a little longer.

At some point I will move to a retirement community near where my most of my family lives. I want to make it easy for them to help me with any issues if I live to be very old and need someone to manage my affairs. Other than that, my plans are pretty vague.

I'm retiring in 10 months!!!!! We have been in AZ since 2000 and I miss family and my home state in the Midwest. So, we are going back to winter. But!!! I won't have to commute and drag my kids out of bed at 4 in the morning in the snow. Now, I will just sit in front of the fire and knit. I am also planning on lots of yoga and gardening and coffee with my 5 siblies.

Only 10 more months!!! I'm so jealous. Congratulations!!! Sounds like you and the others here have some great plans for retirement!!!

I already retired from one career and nursing is my second career. I love it but it is beginning to wear on me. I work in corrections, which is easier on the body than many other nursing jobs; difficult on the soul sometimes, just like all other nursing jobs. My husband really wants me to retire, but then he picks at me about paying for this and that. Adjusting to SSI is going to be difficult and I want to wait to not have any penalty - which will be in approximately 19 months. Then I can also work now and then for some additional income. I really do not want to give up nursing after working so hard for it. I have been offered to do some clinical instructing and I think I will love that, it is very part time, short term and will probably fit the allowed income level. Maybe I'll find some other thing to do like flu clinics? We'll see. Best of luck to all of you considering this great move. Again is the issue will I be productive as a retiree or just sit like a lump. I have activities I love doing and some volunteer work too so hopefully I won't be a lump.

Hey all of you old nurses! What is the name of that device we use to put pre filled vials of meds to inject??? I can't remember what that thing was called!! Help!

Hi all,

Missed this thread when it came out. I am now in the position to say that I have been retired for 2 weeks.

35 years of nursing, (24 in ED) plus 10 years of careers before nursing mean I am tired, sore and glad to have gone.

Will I miss it? Of course I will. But I look forward to doing what I want to do when I want to do it. Looking to do some voluntary stuff, some Tai Chi/Yoga and get to the gym. May even get a puppy.

Being in UK I get state pension when I hit 66 in 4 years time and have my works pension until then with no health care worries.

Despite all our plans, one day you will waken up and think, "That's it, I've had enough. Time to go." Best day was when I handed in my notice - pure relief that that decision was made and acted on.

The Good Lord willing and my 403(b) performing, I am thinking about retiring in five years, when I hit 62 and can start taking Social Security. The difference between the monthly benefit at 62 versus my full retirement age of 67 is only a few hundred dollars per month, and my 403(b) fluctuates several hundred to a few thousand dollars per day. My wife will be 65 then, and as a teacher, she gets an actual pension while most of us in healthcare do not. She can pick up substitute teaching gigs if she gets bored while I have a lot of bicycling and reading to catch up on.
