Are there any nurses out there who wear the white uniform dress in hospitals, nursing homes, etc.?
Right now, I seen many nurses wearing something like this:
Do hospitals, nursing homes, etc. have certain rules about what type of nursing uniforms that should be worn?
LOL - yes our Children's hospital insists that we wear "kid-friendly" prints but Scooby does not hide the needle in your hand that you have start the IV with, nor does he make the pain any less (at least for the big kids - sometimes the toddlers will be "mesmerized" by the characters and at least not be paying as much attention). Kids are innocent and trusting - not stupid. They know that needles hurt even if the person with the needle is wearing scooby scrubs.
They also insist on "kid friendy" colors, which they deemed to not include navy - ????? (I guess if we go around looking too neat and professional, they might feel guilty for not paying us more - HAHAHA!)
We get a bit more leeway in the NICU because, lets face it, the babies just don't care. Some of their eyes are not even open yet - they are not going to recognize spongebob.
I did work with a nurse in the PICU, once, that wore the spongebob top and bottoms - she really did look like she was in her pjs.
I have noticed the run of the mill places like optical offices at Walmart and Pharmacies and Dental offices have the staff wear white uniforms or white lab coats. I know the optical office at Walmart (at least here) just hires people off the street, they keep the lab coats in the back and just send everyone back there to get one. It makes people look like they have specialized training but they don't. I know more about stuff than they do. When I took my medical law and ethics class we were told this uniform or lab coat wearing is frowned upon. It makes the public think these employees having training when they do not which acutually is misrepresentation.
actually- I wore white uniforms for 3 years while training and white pinnys while staffing at Moorfields........... and its a lot more practical than you think! it is possible to get white dresses spotless.. and they dont fade or go yellow if you wash them properly!! they dont get as dirty as you all seem to think- even in delivery suite! I felt like a 'real' nurse!!

Whenever I see someone wearing all white in my facility I think - STUDENT, LOLQuite literally nobody else wears all-white and NOBODY wears dresses.
Where I work a lot of nurses still wear white, the nursing supervisors are allowed to wear white, street clothes w/lab coat or now, finally navy scrubs. I have a coworker who still wears all white, frequently white dresses and still wears her cap. She won't wear anything else. I prefer scrubs though I do have whites, I rarely wear them anymore. As long as I am comfortable I really don't care the color. :)

I refuse to wear white, it makes me look pale.
The hospital I go to requires all the agency to wear white, that's everyone, nurses and aides. You don't suppose they're trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes, do you, letting the patients think that all those people in white are nurses?
of course they are. That is where PROMINENT NAME tags WITH TITLES need to come in!
Where I use to work, we had to wear all white........AND......... those stupid hats!!! Talk about the 'dark ages'......and as far as a dress??? NO WAY MARTHA!! Try climbing over/under a bed in a dress!
I wear what I want now.....I took my granddaughter with me once, now I wear 'Hello Kitty', 'Mr. Potatohead', 'Dr. Suess', 'Clifford the big red dog', 'Curious George'..........you get the picture, and no I work in Rehab/Ortho, but the patients just love the different scrubs we wear!

I think that says it all. Everyone wears scrubs- including prisoners!!! You can even buy them in the supermarket.
I have a lot of cartoon scrubs- which I've been trying not to wear as much. I work in peds, and the kids do respond to them positively. But we're not fooling them- they still know we're the 'bad guys'. I've been wearing more solid colors (matching top and bottom), I feel more professional. Right now I'm wearing navy blue top and bottom (with a little mickey mouse on the breast pocket!!).
Whit just seems too impractical- I could never keep them from turning yellow. I'll ocasionally wear white, but never a top and pants together. I certainly wouldn't protest color-coded units.
