Which study resource resembles the NCLEX type and difficulty of questions the most?

Nursing Students NCLEX

I have been using the Saunders 4th edition, NCLEX4000 from lipponcott and recently purchased "Prioritization, delegation and assignment" which I believe is a very valuable resource.

Saunders questions seem to mostly test on straight up content and less on application. So the questions I feel are a little easier.

NCLEX4000 has more application but I have still seen more difficult questions other places.

The Prioritization book has more difficult questions all dealing with priority, delegation or assignment. I am only doing decent with these questions because I am unable to pull knowledge from a bigger picture to help me answer the questions. Which is why I believe there is no amount of studying to help me improve.. If my mental capacity just doesn't allow me to think at a level to answer, it just won't help.

Would anyone be able to tell me which resource they believe to resemble the types and difficulty of the NCLEX questions? I have also looked into Exam Cram, which have difficult questions as well. Thank you in advance.

Kaplan all the way!!! I like Kaplan review because it made the nclex seemed easy. I followed their plan and strategies and I passed the first time with 75 questions. Kaplan was a great investment. Highly recommend!!!

Kaplan is way harder than the NCLEX questions. I suggest to use Saunders and pair it with Hogan book with CD. The degree of difficulty and the construct of questions in Hogan reviewer are almost similar to the NCLEX questions.

ty sooo much for your responses.. i only have the Kaplan strategy book with 180 x 2 question sets.. and some strategies, I think all of you may be refering to another kaplan book, i have 6 days left, with very minimal time to study bc of a sick toddler and no childcare/ support

should I pay 300 bucks for the kaplan question bank now or just do

nclex 3500 questions

or Mosby

I keep reading saunders is easy...

what do you think

please let me know the clock is ticking.

THANK YOU for making this thread.. I thought it was extremely helpful!! I have been using almost exclusively Saunders (the big blue book, the online review course, and the additional Q&A review book) and I really need to mix it up. I am starting to think some questions are a little too easy--and I am by no means prepared yet or a spectacular test taker. I am going to go with Exam Cram to supplement my Saunders stuff, which I must say I find a super resource for content.

However-- I would say to anyone.. do NOT use Saunders for pharm (I have the Kaplan med flashcards and I like them). Saunders pharm info is overly complicated and detailed, which just makes it overwhelming.

Did you get my email?:D

I used several resources to study for the test. I used Saunders 4th edition and the comprehensive Meds Pub review (which I received courtesy of my school) mainly for going over content. Saunders was more in-depth and Meds Pub highlighted all the main points so together they were very helpful (though Saunder's is sufficient). I did not take the Kaplan course, but I did read over the 2008-2009 edition for critical thinking strategies and answered sample quizzes (50 questions, along w/ answer & rationales) off the website, which helped me get a taste of what it is like. I found that a lot of the Kaplan questions resembled the ones in Springhouse NCLEX-RN, 4th edition. This is a ring of review cards containing 441 questions (along w/ answer & rationales) covering fundamentals, med-surg, psych, maternity, peds, etc. It's really convenient because you can take it wherever you go (and cheaper than paying the $450-500 for the course)! In addition, I went over many questions in "Prioritization, Delegation, & Assignment" by LaCharity. This proved very helpful since I encountered many priority type questions when I took the NCLEX.

Altogether I practiced between 2500 to 3000 questions. I finished w/ 75 questions last Saturday, and found out I passed this Monday!! :D

To those in the midst of a studying frenzy, I have one more thing to say. Don't cram the night before or the morning of the exam. RELAX!!! Take your mind off it for just a moment...laugh and have fun!! You deserve it, and believe me it will relieve some of the jitters. It is hard to think straight when you're anxious. I know someone who had taken the Kaplan Course (went through classes, answered questions from Qbank) and ended up failing because she entered the test room w/ a defeated mindset. She was on the verge of a panic attack and expected to fail. . .and she did, unfortunately. Go into the testing room confident and believe that you will kick NCLEX butt!!I wish you all the best of luck!!

kaplan thoroughly prepared me...i also used saunders books

danah - thanks for your reply it really helped.. you just took it last sat.. well I never made it to 3000 questions or that much prep bc i just moved and have had a very sick child.. with no childcare.. so i have been truly struggling to get through material and questions.. that's why like your friend i kind of have the defeated attitude.. and am terrified i wont be able to continue my schooling if i fail.

but with having very little time, i thought I should focus on medsurg, infection, delegation and priority not so much ob or peds, or calculations or meds.. but then others are telling me differently..

can you tell me how it was and what is the best way to prepare if I only have 5 days about4 hours a day... what source and what topics and questions or content? thanks soooo much i would really appreciate it especially since you just took it.
