California Public Health Nursing
I attended/graduated school in DC, so I had to take extra classes (did them online for a very small fee) to obtain my certification since I did not attend school in cali. If I am correct, if you graduate from a school with a bsn in cali, you will automatically be qualified to obtain a phn. In nursing school during my public health rotation, I realized I wanted to work in that field; specifically maternal-child public health. I currently work at a Native American clinic as a phn wearing many hats. I complete home visits with elders, pregnant mothers and families with small children; administer immz and run flu clinic; teach classes to elders, families and pregnant mothers; drive/accompany patients to their outside/clinic appointments; wound dressings, as needed; complete and manahe med boxes; and case manage all of my patients care. I'm sure I am missing some other things but that is the majority of it all.

public health jobs
Usually 1yr of general nursing experience. But you have lots, so you would be a great candidate depending on the specific job. My organization hired a new grad w only summer camp nurse experience.

Thanks for defending me! Yes, in Cali in order to be a PHN, you must have a BSN degree and be awarded with a PHN certificate, which qualifies you as a PHN.

In order to be a PHN...you have to have a BSN

Public health nurse mom
Yes, I am a supervisor. No, my husband has a very high position at his job, plus he wrks for close family friends so he has a lot of responsibility and adjusting his sched is not an option :-/ I work as a PHN at 2locations at my job, so me going p/t will be very difficult since I have to cover 2 separate locales and am a supervisor. However, it never hurts to ask my boss...even still I wld need a nanny or sitter while I am at wrk. I wld rather have that but have no one I can trust in my area (only been here 1yr) to care for my newborn in my home while I am not present.

Public health nurse mom
I will be having my #2daughter mid february. My 2yo is already in school fulltime. I work m-f and am unsure of what I will do when the baby gets here? My mom lives with us but is currently wrking and unable to help. We live 2hrs from the rest of our family (and even if we lived close there wld be no one to help since everyone wrks fulltime). I refuse to put my newborn in daycare bc I do not trust anyone w my child (espec when they cannot talk). Also, if we do decide to put her in daycare, she wld be in a dif one than my 2yo bc her school starts at 2yo. Or I wld be forced to switch schools so they can both be in the same one. AND daycare is expensive for multi children. Anyone in a similar situation or can offer suggestions? Btw, im the breadwinner so it wld be a financial strain for me to stay at home...
