Which specialty would you like to end up in?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

For all of us wanna be and soon to be nursing students what specialty would you like to end up in? I thought it would be interesting to see if that changes as we actually go through clinicals.

For me it would be Pediatric, OB/GYN, or Oncology. Since I love kids, I am leaning towards Pediatrics and because I would also love to be involved in delivering babies probably be on Obstetrics RN.

Specializes in Non-Nursing Management Experience.

I would like to end up in NICU, ER, or L&D.

My problem is there are so many places I would like to work! I would love post-partum, med/surg (esp. wound care), community nursing, dialysis, the ER....I love that we have so many options, but I am having a hard time narrowing it down! Hopefully doing more clinical rotations will help me sort it out :)

Specializes in Peds/Neo CCT,Flight, ER, Hem/Onc.
It is so cool to see the variety on here!

Just out of curiosity what variety are you seeing? Except for a few outliers it seems everyone wants to do Peds, L&D, NICU and ER/Critical care. :sarcastic:

Prehospital would be my personal preference but ED and critical care would suit me

something related to surgery, dermatology, urology. ideal situation would be RN at university hospital!

Specializes in PCU, LTAC, Corrections.

I would love to work on a CVICU or a Neuro ICU floor. I plan to one day be an acute care NP or possibly a CRNA.

Oncology, OR, or Psych

Ultimately, I want to become a CNM, so I'd like to work in Obstetrics and gynecology. But who knows. I may love it, I may hate it. I'm hoping ill love it as much as I imagine I will. I guess we won't know where we belong until we actually experience it. So excited for nursing school in the fall!

Specializes in mental health / psychiatic nursing.

Currently I'm leaning very strongly towards psych, with interest in hospice, geriatrics/dementia care, and rehab nursing.

This could change after going through clinicals, but I'll have to wait and see where I end up finding my niche.

I won't really know until I do some clinicals but I know I want a specialty that is in high demand for traveling nurses. I'm thinking ICU initially but will have to wait and see how it plays out. Actually, my ultimate would be holistic nursing. But I don't think that travels well.
