Which specialty would you like to end up in?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

For all of us wanna be and soon to be nursing students what specialty would you like to end up in? I thought it would be interesting to see if that changes as we actually go through clinicals.

Specializes in Psych, Case Management, Care Coordination.

L&D, but I'm also becoming more interested in wound nursing.

Specializes in ED.
I've been thinking about Pediatrics (maybe private duty?), School Nursing, the OR, and Labor and Delivery (thanks to "Call the Midwife"). But whatever God has planned for me is fine, I would just be happy to have a job as an RN! :)

I love "Call the Midwife"! I with you - L&D or OR!

Specializes in Mother/Baby.

Prior to starting nursing school I worked in an ER (though not in any patient care capacity), so I would be interested in trauma. I'm also really interested in ICU/critical care. I'm sure I'll change my mind though, or be happy with wherever I end up in this crazy job market.

Also, my secret passion is public heath...

ICU for me! (burns, traumas, etc) also looking into pediatrics but I'm not sure if I can handle seeing sick kids :(

You know... there's so many different things I feel pulled to. It all sounds fun! I just read through this entire thread and kept going "oooh, there's an idea!" every other post.

That being said, my background is as an EMT so I think I would be most comfortable in the ER, followed by L&D nursing because I also have a passion for childbirthing and babies.

That's one area I know I'm not cut out for... The ER!!

It is so cool to see the variety on here!

Specializes in ER, Addictions, Geriatrics.

I chose nursing because of the fantastic L&D nurses I had while having my son. I was convinced that I would work with children. Once I got to schook it was my very least favourite rotation! I would never choose that now! I ended up working telemetry and then ER and I love it! So you never know.

NICU. I can handle the babies passing for some reason.. Spiritually im more comfortable but for the older people, I can't handle their deaths. I think its because they lived their lives already & to see them in a state where they may die is just sad :arghh:

The beginning of life in Labor & Delivery and in the end of life Geriatrics.

Urgent Care, ER, Flight, NICU.

L&D or ER. Forensic nursing sounds like it'd be interesting too.

Specializes in Behavioral Health.

I decided to go pre-nursing for psychiatric, but more and more I'm getting interested in neurology. I suppose clinicals will tell. :)
