  1. So teaching has always been #2 for me, no matter what. Before nursing, when I was in Elementary school I wanted to be a cook, teacher #2. Now nursing, but teaching still #2. I saw a very cool post, and someone want's to teach health and be the part time nurse! That's awesome! That's so cool, every so often my career narrows and soon (or even now) I see it becoming clearer and clearer on what I wanna do! It went Chef, then I found out I love rush and medicine. So I went to fire fighting. I later learned, I wouldn't have that great of a schedule and 90% are volunteers. So I went to Optometry/Ophthalmology. I later learned, I'm not interest in just one subject but still love medicine and rush. Finally, nursing. Nursing has lasted the longest, and my mind is more developed and ready than back in middle school. The other jobs I was iffy on, and I almost knew it would change. This one, I'm set. Nursing is what I want to do, but if I could do my #1 and #2 job together, that would be so great. ( And I can practice culinary arts on weekends and maybe I'll even put out a fire or two! And look at those pink eyes that seem to always come up in kids D: !) But I'd love to teach Health (Medicine/ Nutrition / Exercise / Life Healthiness ) And then work part time as the nurse as well. Maybe this will be way later in my life, as I would also love working in a hospital setting. Like Flight/Nicu/Picu/ER. Maybe I can get my nursing degree and qualify for teaching there later in life. And while I'm young work in the hospital and do the above, and then go teach when I'm older. (Not to much though!) So, do you think that'd be a option? Teaching health and being the nurse at the school? If not, I'm perfectly fine with just being a nurse. That'd be just fine with me! Nursing already has plenty of teaching in it! But helping kids be safer and have healthier lives, before needing to come to the nurses office..is even better:)
  2. I love everything I've heard about nursing, or don't mind what I've heard of nursing ( Like messes). Everything sounds great, the social aspect with a varity of people. Co workers and patients..I love hospitals, I'd love to have a good knowlegde of medicine, and you'll feel rewarded, have laughs, and live decently, and a flexible scedule later on. One thing though, about school nursing. Do you ever get lonely? You're not around docs or usually other nurses or techs or anything. You can talk to the teachers but can you as well as another nurse? Do you ever feel lonely? Phone post! Sorry!
  3. Did you take before even starting the nursing program? The community college near me says you need 10 specific, but about half have 1-3 pre-req classes. - Is there a way to skip pre-req's for pre-req's by taking something like a placement exam?
  4. Can someone give me a list of pros/cons for going to a community college then transferring to a university VS just going to a university. Both to get an BSN. Here's my basic list Community college first Pros: Save lot's of money Able to stay home (Saves more money) Less rigorous apparently? Able to get an job Cons: Some say you won't get your best education you could of got. University right away Pros: Pushed harder to learn (Could be good or bad) Cons: Money, money, money.. Any more? Thanks!
  5. Just a simple quick question: How much do you need to know before you start college/nursing school? What do you need to know about nursing? Do you learn everything you need to know in nursing school, or do you need to come into college with prior knowledge? If so, what? Thanks!
  6. Hello! So I've posted before and I was new and I put this in the wrong category/section But, I'm pretty sure my topic now is in the right section:P So I'm basically stuck between Science and Math classes in highschool. Thank's to the "great" variety at my school, I'm going to have to choose between those two science classes and those two math classes. Here's the thing- Psychology ( at least to me) seem's way more relevant than Physics. But, physics ( Like AP physics) look's way better ( at least what my school says...) on a college resume. Then, with Calculus and Business & statistical math..I know Calculus is a way harder form but I know my aunt's a nurse and she never even took Calculus..but then again she graduated quite awhile ago. But, Business & AP stats would deal with fractions I'm guessing and percents and all that. From my research, it's mostly Algebra and basic math. So what classes should I take that would 1. Increase my chances at a good program and 2. Be more beneficial for me
  7. Hello everyone! Currently I am a 11th grade male student ( In high school ) I've tried asking my counselors about my career path, but they aren't very helpful at my school... I have quite a few questions to ask, and since you guys are experts they should be no problem:P So basically to start off, after high school I want to join the Navy and be a Hospital Corpsman. After serving, I want to enroll into a nursing program in Seattle. Then, I love all types of nursing but two keep coming to mind.. ER and NICU. Those two sound the most appealing to me and the best place for me too be in. So a few questions.. 1. Should I do the entire Hospital Corpsman thing? I really want to join the Navy. I know you can do this through nursing also, but I'd like to go right away. I really want that military experience. 2. The GI bill..I don't know very much about it. Will this help me pay for college? I literally have 0 money for college..okay maybe like $250-500 but that's not much. 3. Chemistry..Right now I am in it and I am getting a B-. Quarter ends very soon, and I'm afraid this class will hold me back. It is OPTIONAL at my school, so can I make it up in college? I am trying my hardest and the teacher just isn't my way of learning. 4. NICU...I heard men shouldn't do this, but then I hear it's a great place. What's your opinion on it? I know NICU and ER are complete opposites practically. 5. How hard do I need to work in Highschool? I'm really pushing myself. I'm taking 7 classes going from 6:45 AM to 3. I am vice president of 2 clubs, treasurer of another, section leader + maybe president of band next year, helps at food bank, in a lot of clubs, and in classes like APUSH, Chemistry, AP lit, Spanish II, Algebra 2..I am at a 3.45 GPA. Am I good? Or am I behind with GPA? Thanks so much guys!:)
